the data is corrupt. delete. try another icon. if does the same you have to format the hard drive

Not sure if this helps but; when the camcorder is connected to the computer, press the "burn to disc" button on the docking station.

Hi, The driver normally comes with the XP OS. Make sure you use firewire cable and not the USB cable.
To download the videos, - Connect the cam and PC using 4 pin firewire cable. - Switch on the cam. - Open Windows Movie Maker and import the video from device.

its located under a rubber piece on back or side of camera just lift rubber piece its there!

I believe there is a codec which is to be bought with the Handycam and I am too facing this problem

Try burning the Video to the Window Movie maker and finish the File as a High Resolution FILE AND THEN try burning the final movie file to the DVD A little long but should work i think

The camera you mention has a built in hard drive for media storage.  The main drawbacks are image quality as the picture is highly compressed and you must export your media to your computer.  This feature is either really handy or an inconvenience - it all depends on your preference.  

The memory stick can only be used for taking still pictures (which are of terrible quality). Your only option for creating space on your hard drive is to delete items. Before that you can upload videos to your computer and/or burn them on DVDs. Sony actuallly has a DVD burner called DVDirect where you can burn DVDs without the use of a computer. I hope this helps.

If you shot the videos in dark with night shot on. There is no way to convert them to look like day. But if you use a editing program like Sony Vegas you would be able to tweek the video to look simi normal.

Mine does the same thing.After it says "connecting" on the LCD of the camcorder, there is nothing to actually do on the camcorder. With the Sony SR42 software installed (supposed to come with the camcorder on purchase-but maybe you can also find it for free online), the software called Sony Picture Utility (which is part of the big packge of software) opens up automatically and offers to either burn your photos/videos to directly to a compact disc, or to import them onto the computer's harddrive.
That's how it happens for me.I'm not-tech savy or anything. Hope this helps.

To change / reset date and time touch on lcd screen, HOME > SETTINGS > CLOCK / LANG > CLOCK SET and set the date and time.
Above said is mentioned in user manual of DCR-SR42 and you can download it from Sony Support.

Use different video editing software. There is one like Vegas or something to do with Las Vegas that works.

The Proper video codec are not loaded on your comp.... search on google for video codec pack and install ..... after which u wont hav problem

the flexwire of the lcd monitor have a cut connection..you have to replace that wire to the service center or repaired that wire to the expert technician cause that wire is very tiny..
