if you have the camer in manual on the back on the round wheel there is a small lightning bolt looking thing (a wavy line pointing down) click that and it should cycle through the flash options, normally the sybol with a circle and line through it means no flash.

As for photo tips, no flash, maybe side light it with a lamp or put it beside a window, this might catch the shadows in the glass so the engraving comes out more.

Take out the OTHER battery, the one that maintains the date / time and then the camera can 'reboot' cleanly when you put some fresh batteries in it.

Hi there, you could buy the lcd panel from canon for about $50.00 but it is a little tricky to replace. If you do open the unit, discharge the flash capacitor first other wise you may be in for the shock of your life if you accidently touch it!

Looks like the contacts of the LCD of your camera are loose. Be advised that this repair would require you to take it apart and may vvoid your warranty. If there are no faulty contacts then you will have to replace the LCD screen. Should cost you around 100-150$

In all of modes you can use "up" key to toggle between "always on", "auto"  and "off" mode for flash. (in some mode there is only auto and off.) also the flash light icon on top right of screen shows th status of flash. I hope this helps...

I think the power shot (A series) has the most user friendly interface! Just press up button to select auto/forced/off mode for flash. I hope this helps...

it's realy easy: just press func. button, then press down 2 time, now you can find it: 10sec, 2sec and custom self timer. (foe setting custom mode highlight it and then press menu.) hope it can help you...

It is likely a new camera will cost only a little more.
If it still takes pictures leave it at that
or buy a new camera

I had this problem too. Try the "DISP" button (bottom left on the display side of the camera. It allows you several viewing options, and is easy to accidentally hit and turn the LCD screen "off."

try reseting the camera back to default settings, there should be a function for that in the menus or a small reset hole somewhere in the camera.

Steel wool should rub that right off.

The batteries u r using for your camera are of very low rating or low ampere output, you should use atleast 2100mAhr rating batteries and you will be very much satisfied with the performance.

You will likely need to use the software that came with the Canon powershot vs. just trying to download via the default (scanner and camera wizard for example) program. If you are doing this already, then I don't know why it is not transferring them over to the computer properly, but if you are not using the Canon Zoombrowser software, you should make sure you load the cd that came with it.

Some functions are not available in all modes.

You have to select Postcard mode to be able to enable the feature (about Page 35). Postcard ratio is 3:2.
If any other ratio is selected (e.g. 3:4) then if it were possible to enable the function it would probably not appear in the printed area.

Try turning the camera on and pressing the DISP button once (button in the lower left corner).
