Toshiba a135-s4656 laptop.the 2 usb ports on right don't work
I would first check to make sure the operating system recognizes that USB ports, etc.
Click Start
RIGHT-click on My Computer
Click Properties
Select the HARDWARE tab
Click the DEVICE MANAGER button
A list of components in the system will appear.
At the bottom will be your USB devices.
Ensure none of them have a
yellow exclamation mark, or question mark next to them.
If any do, RIGHT-click on the component.
Click uninstall.
Click OK.
The device will disappear.
Close Device Manager, then restart the system.
At startup,
the OS will recognize the USB controller as a new device and
automatically install drivers.
After the installation is complete, you should be able to use your USB ports.
If there were no exclamation points or question marks, do the same procedure (as above),
but do it for ALL COMPONENTS under
the USB heading
Then, restart the PC, and let it re-install drivers for all the USB components.
I hope this helps!

CharlieJ

No screen
Plug into an external monitor if possible. If a monitor works then the screen may be bad on the laptop.
Many times the backlight goes out and if you turn up the brightness you can barely make out the screen.
Check Fn keys for screen toggle - Fn+F5?
If you still have no picture and very little HD activity when you power on. Unplug the AC, battery, and re-seat your ram and or remove ram and wait 10 mins. This resets some laptops is a non-bootup situation.
I hope this help and G'luck

Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop
Try disconnecting power adapter and removing battery for two minutes. If the laptop still does not boot then there is an hardware problem. You can try taking out and putting back ram modules, but my suggestion is to take the laptop at a repair shop, if you cannot fix it by removing battery.

Cannot access any programs on Toshiba Satellite A135-S4517
Either a tune up, or it has a faulty hard drive. If you can manage to get to My Computer, right click your C: drive, select Properties, go to the Tools tab and click Check For Errors. Check all the options, and start it. It will tell you that the tests can only proceed when you reboot. Check it in order to do so and reboot.
Good luck.

Toshiba notebook touchpad tap doesnt work
Goto 'Control Panel - Mouse - Device Settings, Highlight the device in the list and then click settings. It Might just be that it needs re-configuring. Devices like this tend to loose there configuration due to being used so much and of course the ammount of pressure put on them. There is alot you can reset here. The touch pad does alot more than you think, We just dont bother to look at the settings because we are too busy looking at the screen, and rightly so. Im not saying this will rectify the problem but its worth a try.

Key stroke problems when using E-Mail (Only)
You probably use an online mail system. If you were to use Outlook or Outlook Express this would not occur, because they are not online. This basically means, when you type a character to an online system, it must travel to the remote server, then be echoed back to you. The time can vary between keystrokes widely, depending on the number of hops, latency and other factors. Offline email does everything on your PC then transmits a complete email message at one time when you send it. The speed of your internet connection can influence this greatly. Most DSL connections are fast enough that this should not happen. If you are using a telephone modem, it will happen regularly.

No power
Hi 1trainer2nv,
I have been having the EXACT same problem with my Toshiba notebook (Satellite A135-S4527). At first, I thought it was an issue regarding my AC adapter. But after getting it checked out by a certified Toshiba service technician, he diagnosed it as an issue dealing with the component on the motherboard that corresponds to the power supply. For me, the problem was that the computer's cooling fan was not as efficient/powerful as it should have been for the system. This resulted in the eventual overheating of some of the hardware components. From what I hear, Toshiba is notorious for not equipping their laptops with adequate fans. The technician estimated that it would cost at least $300 to resolve the issue. He also told me that an external laptop fan that slides under your notebook could have mitigated the overheating.
Fortunately, I have still been able to use my laptop even though this problem has been affecting my notebook for the better part of four months. What I have been doing is running the laptop solely on battery power, not from power provided by the AC adapter. Don't ask me how this has been working -- I have no idea. And the good thing is that I am still able to charge my battery when the laptop is shut off. When the system is unable to receive power, however, I remove the battery from the computer and I leave the AC adapter unplugged for at least 24 hours. Then after jiggling the adapter around in the computer's power input hole and/or inserting it multiple times until I see a solid blue light for the power signal, I will reinsert my battery for charging.
I cannot guarantee that this will also work for your system, but it's surely worth a try. I hope this helped and best of luck!

Toshiba DVD not showing up
Does the DVD drive show up in Device Manager under "CD/DVD drives"? It's possible that either the drive is bad ...or maybe there is a bent pin on the connector side preventing it from recognizing the drive. However, that's kind of rare.
If the DVD drive is listed, is there any "splats" or exclamation marks next to it? If so, I'd first try uninstalling the drive and rebooting. Windows *might* be able to properly install the drive. If not, try downloading the drivers (if there are any for Toshiba drives)
here.
Worst case scenario ...if it turns out to be a bad drive, you can always just get an external USB drive, and not necessarily have to replace the factoy unit, which can get expensive.
Hope this helps (a little) :)
