Have you made sure you are plugging the HDMI into the right HDMI port? Many TVs have multiple ports and you can usually use the remote to switch to the proper one. Once you find the "input" menu on the TV you an run through all of then until you find a signal, or look at the HDMI port number on the back of the TV and then select that port. I do not think it is an issue of getting a better calbe.

Other possibility is that the Mac is not sending a signal - and for that you need a Mac person.

There are reports that the power supply has dry o leaky capacitors. If you open the TV you will see the power supply # MLT169A.
I have fixed a few of this power supplies.

The following parts can be purchased at digikey.com or mouser.com web site. I am also posting all of the things I have found so far with these TVs.

Here are few possible solutions:

If you have no red light and you have a Megmeet MLT386 power supply, check these parts:

1) Swollen caps on the secondary circuit (may cause the red light blink problem, but also see below).
2) Blown fuse F1 (5A/250V) this is caused by a shorted FET at QA1 (20N60), you may also find that SMT cap CX23 is burned up (.001uf) which is in parallel with diode DA2 which may be damaged/shorted, replace these components.

If the power LED goes from red to green when powered up but no picture, then it might be lost +24VDC from the power supply:

3)Check fuse F2 (3.15A/250V, I put a 5A in), if it is blown, replace FET at QA2A (9N50C), replace QA2 as well (9N50C). Check SMT resistors at R233,R234,R235,R236 (.47 ohm). If open, replace with .1 ohm 1W or 2W resistor (easier to source). Also replace SMT transistor QF1 (2X4 or 2N4401 NPN transistor). And replace diodes at DS2 and DS1 (HER207), DS2 was shorted, DS1 was ok but I replaced it anyway.

I dont know as much about the Megmeet MLT169A, but it has similar problems and similar components.

4) I had to replace all of the capacitors in the secondary circuit (there are six in a 3x3 row marked EC9 (1000uf35V),EC10(1000uf35V),EC14(470uf35V) and EC18,EC19,EC20 (all 1000uf35V).
OK for the Megmeet MLT169A with red flashing LED when turned on I found that IC7 was bad. This is an SMT component on the solder side of the power supply. It is a 4407P (P channel 30V MOSFET). For testing purposes, we jumped across it to feed +5V to the TV permenently instead of allowing +5V to go into standby.

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

Hi,
Complete power supply board replacement is good because component level repair is not possible because spare parts are not available.
Let me know if you want to replace complete power supply board to provide you further info.
Thanks.

You have to do some probing with meter and find out if all the voltages and basic sigals are there. Please read my basic troubleshooting guide here:

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have described it seems the issue is with the power board as the red blink indicate a bad power supply and we’ll need to check few things. When you open the unit up; take a look at the power board-the board where the power cords/plugs goes into. You might see some filter capacitors a little bulged up in the top-If this is the case-this is your defective part(you can try to replace them-but some soldering equipment is needed). If not, then probably the main board has gone bad. This is the other board-where all the inputs are going into. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components. Please note that the TV components consists high voltages even when in off position. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

if the set has a headphone socket try that with some headphones if noise vanishes then is probably a loose speaker nacelle if noise is in headphones this is a set issue check all connections are good my set occasionally gets a loose hdmi connection this affects the sound badly.

Akai LCT3785TA... | Answered on Feb 17, 2010

Ok.. What is the status of the power LED at the front. Does it blink, change color a few seconds after its turned on? Do you notice any clicking noise from the set?

Please provide this info so that we can continue with the diagnosis.
Sai.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Televisions have, for years, had 'switch mode' power supplies, which means that, in the event of a fault occurring the power supply section will shut down. However, you probably will not have to replace the supply: it is very likely that only the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply are bad. If these capacitors have swollen or dried, simply replacing these may repair the power supply. If you wish to repair this yourself, soldering equipment and very good soldering skills are required to change these parts. All this is only recommended if you have electrical expertise and know how to solder/re-solder components.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
