32 inch tv/dvd combo cuts off on its own

The main power supply regulator section circuit fault. Either it will be a separate board, or the part of main board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. https://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.//

Won't power on

Chances are it is the Power Supply. It is a Megmeet MLT386X which is hard to find, but sometimes IS available on ebay. There are places that will repair the old one advertising on ebay as well. If you remove the covers running across the heat sinks and see that the capacitors are bulging, the repairs are within the capability of anyone who knows how to use a soldering iron. If you are handy with a soldering iron, LCDalternatives sells a kit with ALL electrolytic capacitors prone to fail for $15.95 plus shipping. I bought the kit and fixed mine. It took a couple of hours to unsolder and replace the capacitors. Powered up and has run for last two years with no problems.

Hello Mike,

We have repaired quite a few Akai monitors that have the same problem that you have but not that exact model. The problem you have is caused by capacitor failure in the power supply board. You should be able to repair you power supply board by replacing the bad capacitors. If you can solder then you can do the replacement. If you want to do the repair you will need to open the TV to ge to the power supply board. Look for the capacitors and then see if you find ones with bulging tops, this indicates the ones that have failed. You can check out this article on our web site that explains what capacitors are, why they fail and what to look for : http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/capacitors/ If you would like additional help on this repair you can post a picture or two to our forum at: http://www.ccl-la.com/forum/index.php We will look oer the pictures and mark the parts that need to be replaced.

I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

It will not turn on

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

TV won't turn on.

Hello,

your TV is having a power problem. The power supply board is defective that's why the TV won't power up. Its receiving power but it cannot transfer the current to the necessary part of the TV because a capacitor, diode, etc may have been faulty. Until these bad components are replaced, the TV might not come on.

If you know about TV repairers, I would suggest that you open the TV and read the power board/panel with a meter, detect the bad component and replace it. Take note that TV stores a lot of current that can shock, so leave the TV for a while before you open it.

If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you.

Good luck.
