Xerox Phaser 6250 Laser Printer - Page 2 Questions & Answers
Hello, I have an invitation that is 4in wide x 9
In addition to the wide variety of standard paper sizes available for this printer, you can use custom size
paper in the Tray 1 (MPT).
The size range for custom size media is as follows:
Minimum allowable page size:
89 x 140 mm (3.5 x 5.5 in.)
Maximum allowable page size:
216 x 356 mm (8.5 x 14 in.)
- Open Tray 1 (MPT).
- Insert the custom size paper and adjust the guides to match the size of the paper. Place the side to
be printed facedown with the top of the page entering the printer first.
- When the front panel prompts you to confirm the type and size of paper:
- Scroll to Change by pressing the Down Arrow key and press the OK key.
- Scroll to the correct paper type and press the OK key to save your selection.
- For the paper size, scroll to Custom and press the OK key.
- Select Set Custom Width (W) by pressing the OK key.
- Press the Down Arrow or Up Arrow key to scroll to the desired value for X and then press the OK key.
- Scroll to Set Custom Height (H) and press the OK key.
- Press the Down Arrow or Up Arrow key to scroll to the desired value for Y and then press the OK key.
- Select the custom size in the printer driver.
Windows 95 / Windows 98 / Windows Me PostScript driver:
On the Setup tab:
- After you select the Multi-Purpose Tray and the tray displays Custom to indicate that it has
custom size paper, enter the dimensions of the custom size paper in the Width and Height boxes.
- If you select Automatic for the paper source and select Custom Size for the paper size, enter
the width and height values of the desired custom size paper in the Width and Height
boxes. The values for width and height are initially 0. If you
previously entered information in the boxes, the values are
automatically entered.
Windows NT / Windows 2000 / Windows XP PostScript driver:
On the Paper/Quality tab:
- If you select Choose Specific Tray, select the Multi-Purpose Tray.
- If you select Automatic, you can select your custom size from the Paper Size drop-down list.

Jam at registration roller?
I can tell you "exactly" where your jam is !
If you open the top cover and remove the imaging unit. Look straight down, and you will see a black rubber roller about 8 inches long. this is the registration roller. If you remove the four screws (two on the left side, one in the middle, and one on the right) and gently lift up your wrinkled paper will be right there. Since your are not replacing the registration assembly you do not need to remove the two connectors that attach to the main board from the registration assembly. Just remove the paper, reseat unit, and put back screws. There is a test to see if your unit has the fix that gives the drive assembly a little more power to aviod jams in the future. This is a software fix.
I believe it's available on the xerox website as a postscript snippet. xx.ps
Reseat imaging unit notice won't go away
The Phaser 6250 has a known flaw in the design of the gear slide assembly associated with the door over the imaging unit. One of the teeth has skipped and will require a service tech to "realign Rack-V". It's an easy fix if pictures/diagrams could be posted, but I'm not recommending a novice to attempt this fix without them. "Reseat Imaging Unit" error is a common fix for Xerox printer techs familiar with the 6250.
Xerox phaser 6265 displays engine service 8300
From the service manual:
Code 83: Engine NVRAM is corrupted or receiving wrong data from a CRUM.
1 Cycle power to the printer. Does the error still appear? If so, go to step 2.
2 Remove and reinstall the Imaging Unit and Fuser Assembly. Does the error recur
after the power has been turned off and then on? If so, go to step 3.
3 Replace the imaging unit. Does the error still occur? If so, go to step 4.
4 Replace the fuser assembly. Does the error still occur? If so, to to step 5
5 Replace the EEPROM board. Does the error still occur? If so, replace the Engine Control Board.

I had this problem when I used a generic toner. I installed a xerox cyan toner, then printed many sheets of a large blue rectangle. After about 15 pages the blue started to spread into the shape, after 30 pages the blue was back. Printing a lot of blue was necessary to get the new toner thru the system.
Replace Transfer Roller
In the Phaser 6250 Color Laser Printer Service Manual (which I had to have emailed to me from my toner supplier since it is not available to the general public) I went to Chapter 6 - Error Messages and Codes. I had to reboot the printer. Here is the procedure.
Entering by rebooting the printer:
1. Turn the printer power OFF
2. Hold down the Back and Information buttons simutaneously and turn the printer
back on.
3. Continue to hold the buttons until the following message is displayed on the front
panel: Service Diagnostics V#.##, Initializing ....., and then release the buttons.
4. The front panel displays the Service Diagnostics Menu.
On the display is a menu. Find Transfer Roller. Press enter on this menu where it says Toner Waste (Not Full). Back out of the menu.
All of a sudden the machine came to life. You may have to turn off the printer and turn it back on again.
Good Luck

How Brave is Jan?
Doubt it be the fuser(100 000life), "just magenta dots".... fuser would be "all smudged" or "black marks" , "the print rubs off" , "paper is creasing or jamming"
Can prove it by stopping a print (open door) when paper is1/2 way threw machine, you need to stop it before it goes threw the hot bit, so you can tell if the hot bit (fuser) puts the marks on the paper.
Transfer roller one would expect to effect whole print Smudged/Faint,uneven density
It will be the imaging unit ( 30 000 pagelife Ouch$ ) or possible leaking toner (if aftermarket)
Remove imaging unit and inspect film you should find image of lines, dots are usually chips or sticky stuff on drum surface, carefull no oily human fingers on surface please.
When stopping machine mid print and perfecting your timing, pull out the imaging unit and look at replica of your print notice if marked and where.
Hope this helps
