Amana ACO1860 Microwave Oven Questions & Answers
Amana microwave touchpad
Well.........Here is what I did. Some buttons did not work. Could not turn on the light, vent, cancel, any of the dumb little "popcorn, potato, beverage" or any of those buttons. I could, however, hit say, 33 and Start and it would cook for 33 seconds. You had to go the full 33 seconds because the Cancel button did not work (trouble if you accidentally entered 3333).So, took the touchpad box off of the microwave and proceeded to clean all of the contacts on everything that had a contact. I used Isopropyl Alcohol and a Cue-tip to clean everything gently but fully. I paid lots of attention to the contacts on the green plastic "strip" as there was quite a bit of black stuff on the contacts themselves and on the strip. I don't suppose that it was a problem being on the strip as I think that the wires are on the inside of the plastic, but I cleaned it anyways. The connector that connects the circuit board to the touchpad (green plastic strip) was a little tricky to seat back into the proper location as the plastic connector sort of became a "free agent" and did not want to line up properly. I found that it went easy once I determined that all you had to do was seat the connections into the connector and then seat the clip on top of the whole thing.Well, I reconnected everything, plugged it back in, and everything worked just fine. My opinion is that the black stuff was either dust that collected and combined with the steam or maybe even some sort of mold or mildew that grew in that nice, warm, moist environment.I was about to do one of 3 things: 1) Buy a replacement Control Board ($159.99); 2) Buy a replacement Touchpad ($39.99); or buy a replacement microwave ($329.99).My cost to fix this? $000.00. Try it first if you have a similar problem. Good Luck!
Will not heat or cook food
HI.usual problem if it does not heat food is the MAGNETRON.It is a filament that is responsible of producing heat. You have to open the bottom part of yuor oven and chec\k this filament if it is still working. You can check the continuity of the filament if it has.Using a MULTITESTER set it to OHMS value.Connect it to both ends of the filament and then check if pointers moved. If it means it does works but if its not either its defective. You need to replace it with a new one..Hope this helps..
During reheat and popcorn settings - the error
Hi hoodrd,
If you are encountering F4 error code from your Amana oven this is because you have an Open Oven Temperature Sensor. This error requires a replacement of new oven temperature. You may contact Sears for the replacement part at 1-800-252-1698; M-F 6:30 AM-10:30 PM - Sat 7:00 AM-9:30 PM - Sun 7:30 AM-9:30 PM - All times Central. Just get your model number ready when you call.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.
The unit is not heating
It sounds like the magnetron may have
either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high
voltage required to run it.
YOUR
SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT
This is a job for a professional but if
you are safety clued up, here's instruction.
Make sure the !!!!any
capacitors are discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of
repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high
voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 or moving coil meter on high
resistance range for short circuit, (DVM's won't show the fault!),
the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the
primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the
magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.
The microwave turns on but does not get hot. The
you need to remove the outer cover, then carefully discharge the high voltage capacitor with 2 insulated screwdrivers or an insulated jumper wire, then test this and the high voltage diode and the internal ceramic fuse for continuity
