My HP J6480 printer will not recognize the ink

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges

Can I received fax on

Hello.
The Fax can only be received and printed from the unit.
If you have a 56k modem in your PC with a phone line input you can set up a fax through windows. Simply go to control panel, printers and faxes and follow the instructions to install a fax driver.
Then you can receive the fax directly to your PC without having to go through the HP Printer at all.

Error message: "Door Open"

HI there,
Follow the steps below:
Step one: Close the print cartridge access door
1.Verify that the print cartridge access door is completely closed. It may appear to be closed, but if it is not completely closed, the error message will display. Verify that there are no obstructions blocking the door.
2.If you are unsure how to close the print cartridge access door on your model, consult your User Guide for more information.
Figure 1: Examples of closing the print cartridge access door (your model may vary)
f3e57be.gif If you have attempted to completely close the access door and the error still appears, there may be a problem with the door sensor and the unit may require service.

Step two: Service your product
If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.

Good Luck!!!

HP L7580 Printer Head Problem??

I had the same problem plus had problems with message indicating "alignment failed" and to monitor the blakc/yellow print head.  The print quality was very bad in black.  It seemed to print about 1.5 lines and then skip a line. When I replaced black and yellow it seemed to get better print quality was just as bad.  Finally called HP support. These are the steps they told me to do.

1. disconnect power

2. remove all ink cartridges

3. remove and clean contacts of both print heads

4. perform simultaneously the following press 6 and # on the keypad while at the same time plug in the power.

5.  --- the printer came on (black squares on the screen) and then shut off.

6. --- was told to power up the printer

7. Printer began checking device(took a long time)

8. Printer began aligning printer (took a long time)

9. Finally finished = Message on screen "Alignment Failed"

10. Still not printing and hours later.

11. They will be replacing printer

12. Then they hit you with that you should buy a set of inkjet cartidges from them at $109.96 -  warranty 2yr, works better, etc.

13. Sent to somebody else to arrange shipping new printer.

14. Free shipping 5-7 days - big deal -  placed my work (home office) on hold.

16.  Service help - listen when it follows the script, otherwise like talking to a door  (In India).

17. Finally get transfered to somebody else and he informs me that he is not authorize to give me a new printer, need to talk to somebody else who is not there.  Advises to call during business hours.  He said that he could request that I be called back but that it could take a 1.5 days to get back to me.

18. I am going to call tomorrow morning during business hours - wish me luck.

I don't know what is awaiting but IN The Future I will not talk to anybody from INDIA - they do not have authority and do not listen (but maybe they don't listen because they can't do anything about it).

Good Luck!!

Getting error when trying to fax or scan

The L7580 is not meant to be set up as a scanning device on a network. This unit can only function properly as a USB connected device to have all the features work. Also, for the software to install with out problems, all other All in One software fro previous HP printers need to be removed. Once we did that and did clean install using USB only then did it work.

Copy memory on HP L7580

sounds like you need to change your virtual memory settings or buy more RAM.
Here is how to change the settings:
I am assuming you use WINXP

  1. Click Start , right-click My Computer , and then click Properties .
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. In the Performance section, click Settings .
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Virtual memory section, click Change . Both the Initial and Maximum settings should be less than the reported Space available on the hard disk drive. The Initial size setting for the virtual memory settings should be about 200 MB, and should be higher than or equal to the recommended paging file size shown in the lower section of the dialog box. When you set the initial size, Windows reserves on the hard disk drive the amount of space you designated for virtual memory. The maximum amount allowable can be anything above the Initial size setting, but it should be at least twice the Initial size setting, as shown in Figure 2. Figure 2: The Windows XP Virtual Memory settings c00174885.gif
  6. Based on the information above, make any necessary changes to the Initial size and Maximum size settings.
  7. Click Set , and then click OK .

Cannot receive faxes

The storm has likely damaged the phone line, or the ADSL microfilter (if you have one). Which is why it thinks a phone on the fax line is off the hook. Check your line for breaks and your ADSL filters for a blown filter.
