Tv wont turn on please

I have seen several of these with multitude of bad capacitors, I have replaced as many as 40 caps in one tv. Specifically 200mf caps 16 wvdc on the digital board. 1000mfd 25 v caps on the power supply, I can bet dollars to donuts you have an avalanche of bad caps in this set. Has probably been taking longer and longer to start lately ? If you open the tv look for the tops of little battery shaped items ( electrolytic capacitors) the tops or bottoms may have swelled out. I have even found them to have popoped their tops right off, you find a wrapped paper looking device where the cover used to be. some are easy, this one may be tough! Joe

Problem could be with your TV/AV button being jammed or faulty.
Try opening it up and spry the button with contact cleaner. This should make it work. If you still have the same problem than change the push button for TV/AV.
Good Luck.

Hello,
The issue you describe is consistent with a power supply board issue. This is the board where the AC goes to. This problem may have occurred as a result of irregular power supply, or excess power supply or power surge.
The TV is receiving current but cannot circulate or transfer the current to other necessary part of the TV because of the defective power supply board. You might be lucky it's just a blow fuse. Also a defective transformer can cause your TV not to power on.
All these can be checked on the power supply board.
But more often bad capacitors causes problem on the power supply board. I do not think the power board needs replacement, rather those defective capacitors is causing this issue. Open unit up and take a look at the power supply board. You will probably see one or more electrolytic filter capacitors that are bulged up in the top-not perfectly flat like the others.
The value of these capacitors will be different, most likely they will be somewhere around-820 to 2200uF/25 V( or /10V sometimes)
You can replace them with same values but I would recommend the voltage rating to be higher(like 35V for an original 25V) for reliability purposes.
What happens is,these bulged top capacitors will cause a low and unfiltered DC voltage=main board will malfunction(the relay will keep clicking until the caps are holding enough charge to bring the voltage up over a threshold point).
You can buy these capacitors at any Fry's or Radioshack store or you can order them online at vendors like "mcmelectronics.com"(look for electrolytic capacitors). After replacing these capacitor(capacitors) most likely the normal operation will be restored. Or you can by a refurbished complete power board to save you some stress.
Note: There may be also some other causes for this symptom ,like a defective T con board ,or main board, but the bulged top capacitors are the most common cause for this issue.
If you don't know about TV repairers, take the TV to the nearest repairman to fix the fault for you. Also, note that TV stores a lot of current, so wait a while before opening the TV back cover.
I hope this helps.
Regards.

I havw sound on my TV, but the image disappeared.

You have a back light inverter board bad. Since you have sound it is not the power supply. Do a search with the model number on Google, Ebay, or Shopjimmy.com to find prices and availibility. Easy to install, just take the back off the board and unscrew and unplug the inverter board. A picture on Ebay will match the part. Be sure to match numbers as well.

Where can I find directions on how to replace the

hi, to replace the capacitors need to take the board out, by removing the screws and disconnecting the wires braids. You need bread, tin and absorbs tin. You should take the tin from the legs of the capacitors, until it can release the capacitors outside the board. Next, you put the new capacitors in place. Should pay attention to put the capacitors, by proper polarity of plus or minus. It is important to be precise with the value of capacity and try to put a capacitor with a value of slightly higher voltage, temperature resistant to 105 degrees.

Akai lct3201 power problem

I fixed my Akai LCT3201AD in about 30mins. using 3 small parts from Radio Shack. Once I got the back off, I found the power supply board (PSB), mine was part# MLT-169B rev1.2. I looked at the capacitors (caps.) first, because they are usually easy to diagnose. I noticed the caps. bubbled out on the top of the board (where all the cables connect to it). There is 3 of them in a row, positioned between the two large heatsinks. My guess is that the heatsinks are generating a LOT of heat over time, because of bad ventilation, and causing the caps. to fail.
I went to Radio Shack and found 3 caps. (only had 3 in stock). The original ones were 16V-1000uF, Radio Shack only carried 35V and 50V in the 1000uF caps., so I bought the 35V ones and headed home, I removed the old caps. from the board, and installed the new ones. The 35V caps, are a little bigger, so its a tighter fit on the board, be careful. It took longer to remove the back from the TV than it did to do the soldering. YouTube.com has excellent videos on how to de-solder caps. on PSB's.

Total money spent on repairs:
$1.59 ea for 3 Caps. (part# 272-1032) $4.77
$2.99 for new soldering iron tip + $2.99
$1.00 donation for St. Jude's + $1.00
Total including tax $9.30

So for less than $10, I did a repair that my local TV repair shop wanted $575 for. Online stores want anywhere from $100-$275 for a PSB. If I get another 2 yrs out of it that's well worth $10.

Tv turns on, red light goes on, but screen does

I had a similar problem with my 42 in Philips LCD HDTV.

Here was the problem. My Power Supply Board had several bad capacitors. I opened my TV (warranty was expired of course) and found four bulged capacitors on the PSB. Many major electronics companies Philips/Magnavox, Sony, Panasonic, and others were sold capacitors that failed in 2-5 years instead of 10-20. The capacitors fail prematurely due to a lack of preservatives. Unfortunately, they were installed in all sorts of devices and cause a wide range of failure problems.

Here are some options for you.

1. Have it fixed by a professional $$$$$$$??????? (Is it under warranty?)

Remember, TVs CONTAIN HIGH VOLTAGE AND CAN KILL YOU! Do this at your own risk.

2. Open your TV and find PSB. (The board that the power cord plugs into) Check for faulty caps. If you find some (bulged or leaking) bad caps replace the entire board. The entire board costs around $250 right now because they are in high demand right now. They can be found online. I would definitely shop around though.

3. Remove and then replace individual faulty caps. This takes some soldering skill.

Caps are inexpensive and if you can take care of it yourself it will save you hundreds.

This may be your problem. If you determine that it might be.

I have a Tip/How TO tutorial on this site that may also help. It gives step by step instructions for replacing caps on PSB #715t2432-2. If this is your board you are in luck. Here is the Link: Fixing the Philips Turns/shuts off on its own problem. I'm working on uploading pictures to help guide people though the process as well. Let me know if I can do anything to help.

Hope this helps and if it does please rate it accordingly. Good luck.

Akai Have to press turn on b utton about 50 times

Hi

No its NOT a button problem. I've seen this problem many times in computer monitors as well, its the powersupply, theres a few electrolyte capacitors that you have to replace or the entire powersupply, most likely just a few 1-2 $ components need to be soldered off and replaced to new ones.

I'm shocked someone told you it might be a button problem, could you share with me the name of that "expert" ?

here is what a good capacitor should look like: size and values are probably different, notice the surface is FLAT.
