My charging/battery light is blinking but there is no display on the screen. Does not appear to be on???
Depends on how adventurous you wish to be !! Try pushing down on the area in middle of triangle formed by Bkspace, "K" and Ctrl key. Use a little more pressure than normal for regular key press. might boot back up. Not uncommon problem and sides divided as to fix. There appears to be a small chip on board under this area and it reacts to pressure. Weak solder joint apparently. Not a job for novice with a solder iron. Needs precise aim and temp.

hi i have a HP compaq nc6000 laptop, and when i try to start it up all i get is noise of fan starting up with one glowing orange light next to a lightning bolt like symbol. I looked up similar problems people had with the same laptop on youtube, there was a lot of similar problems people were having with starting their laptops (same laptop as mine) but none exactly the same so i couldn't find a helpful solution. But i did try taking out ram and reinserting but that only helped for 10 mins by getting me into my desktop. Then all of a sudden it turned off and i have been able to turn it on only 2 more time but with the same result with the laptop turning off some times just the screen and sometimes everything just stops any advice?
cpu is getting over heated because the fan cooling it is slow or not working well or stopped . go into setup , see the cpu temperature, and fan speed , if normal , neglect the above cause.
change ram , use any other working ram .
battery may not be fully charged , or old battery.
battery faulty (current leakage or less working voltage or less current storage capacity,
use mains supply , if lap top is ok on mains supply then charging section or battery is faulty.

My Laptop Hp compaq nc6000 is giving me some problems and I wanted to format it, but there's no way be which I can get to configure the BIOS to boot from CD in order to format it, I also tried installing the Windows through the CD, but it gives me this "Setup Information file D:\i386\COMPDATA\NTCOMPAT.INF is invalid" error each time. Please what can I do to successfully format/reinstall my Laptop's Windows to XP servoce pack 2
I know I just had the same problem today...when getting into the bios...try using a "multi-bay" boot and have the cd booted first then the hd...That's the only way mine worked to "trick" the system to boot from the cd...it took a few times of stalling after that but with frustration and regathering with patience, it finally worked...you might have problems with the devices not being recognized after it does load unless you have an easy driver set to install from cd...otherwise you might have to manually install them to make them operate correctly. *hint: using the device manager to see any '?s' and reinstall drivers helped me*

hello, my hp compaq nc6220 gives me this message when i power it on: ''insert smart card into smart reader'', and will not boot into windows i have to keep trying powering on and off
countless number of times b4it sometimes boots.and the last time it booted to windows and i play music, it suddenly shut down after a while, and it keeps giving the same smart card msg. i remove cmos battery, clean board, everything i know how to, still nothing. pls help
Pl switch the machine off and put 2-3 pounds of pressure with your palm on the keyboard closer to the spacebar.. this will fix it..
it is caused by the weakening of the adhesive of the wires below the keyboard.
Long term option - get the keyboard opened by the an professional and cleaned properly..and fixed back neatly...

how do you unlock the mouse touch pad?
1. The touchpad and external mouse drivers should be able to work together. Just make sure that you have the touchpad enabled. To see if you have the touchpad enabled, hold the Fn key and press F9. The combination Fn-F9 locks and unlocks the touchpad. If pressing Fn-F9 once, twice, thrice does not seem to lock/unlock your touchpad.. then you might not have the Toshiba hotkeys working or enabled. So lets forget it and try step 2. If Fn-F9 solved your problem.. there you go !
Arrow The way it works is you have to keep holding Fn key and have to hit F9 once, that should lock the touchpad. Again if you keep holding Fn and hit F9 again, that should unlock it and so on..
2. Sometimes this solves the problem.. Do a power cycle of your computer.. i.e., unplug the AC.. take the battery out.. Plug the AC back in and try to turn computer ON with AC alone (i.e, leave the battery out and just start computer with AC power).. Once windows loads up and everything is fine, then turn system off. Unplug AC.. put battery back in.. Plug AC back in and restart computer.. All should be working now.. if not, keep reading..
3. Click on START>go to RUN>type devmgmt.msc
4. Now in the Device Manager, click on the + sign next to Mice and other pointing devices. Right click on each device listed under "Mice and other pointing devices" and Uninstall ALL the MOUSE Devices you see listed there..
attention Make sure you ONLY uninstall the Mouse devices and not ALL devices from Device Manager like your CD, Display etc.. Just uninstall the devices listed under Mice and Other pointing devices after you have clicked on the + sign to the left of it..
5. Go to http://support.toshiba.com there click on Downloads.. select your computer.. Product=Portable, Family=Satellite, Model=M35X-S149.. then click on "GO" button on the right.. Again in the next page that comes up click on "Downloads"..
6. In the page that came up saying Downloads ( All operating systems, All categories ), at the top drop the list Filter by Operating System and select Windows XP (I am assuming you have XP.. if you have another OS, select that instead).. then on the right of it, drop the list Filter by Category and select Touchpad.. then click on the button "Apply Filters"..
7. Now you just see two drivers listed..
09-30-2004 Toshiba Utility
Touchpad Toshiba Touchpad Enable/Disable Utility for Windows XP (v1.27.0.3; 09-24-2004; 5.34M)
06-15-2004 Driver
Touchpad Alps Touchpad Driver for Windows XP/2000 (v6.0.303.5; 05-26-2004; 2.43M)
Click on the Download link on the right.. Save them to your computer somewhere in a folder or desktop, where you can remember.. After the files are downloaded, double-click on the file.. Unzip.. then Run.. and it will install the driver..
8. Restart your computer.. Now the Touchpad should be working fine.. Try Fn-F9 combination.. i.e, keep holding Fn key and tap F9 once, twice to see if it locks/unlocks the touchpad..
If above doesnt solve it, then please post any errors that you get and I will see if we need to try something else.
Thanks for using fixya...

shift key not working
You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working
then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should
consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on
Windows that can disable the shift key.
**Note : If both Shift
keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on
windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys,
Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility
Options,
and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and
click
apply and OK.
**If
"Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is
disabled.
