Try a new USB cord and make sure your driver is updated. Try a different USB port on your PC as well. They can go bad. You may try to remove the battery for a minute and then reinstall the battery and see if that resets it and has any effect.

HI. This unit has internal memory(1gb) that can become unstable, thus, causing start up issues. With that said; This will most likely be a dead cell(battery). I would replace the battery with a new one if it is over 1 years old. This lithium cell may be defective. Once you have purchased a new battery, be sure to charge it fully before using the player. It takes three whole hours to set a newly purchased lithium cell. Once that is done, power up the player and update your firmware. Use the steps below to update properly:

1. Download the updated firmware at www.memorexelectronics.com.

2. Unzip the file, then double click setup.exe in the Desktop folder to install the software to your computer.

3. Connect the player to the computer using the supplied USB cable and the installation screen will appear. (If the installation screen does not appear, unplug the USB cable and turn off the unit). Connect to the computer again and press and hold the Power On/Off/Stop button until the installation screen appears.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

5. When finished, click START and locate the newly installed software “Deco” andselect “Firmware Download”.

Now, after the update, you will need to reformat the player. Use the steps below to achieve this:

1. Use the USB cable to connect the player and the computer.

2. Double click on My Computer, then right click "MPT Player", "MMP8565"or "Removable Disk" and left click on"Format".

3a. For "MPT Player" or "MMP8565", at the "Format" window, click OK to confirm and the player will start to format . When
finished, click "OK" to close the Format window.

3b. For "Removable Disk", at the "Format" window, select "FAT 32" from the file system pull-down menu, then click "Start" to format the unit

• NOTE: Make sure you have selected "FAT 32" at the file system pull down menu; otherwise, after formatting, the player will not work properly.Then, click OK to confirm and the player will start to format. When finished, click "Close" to close the Format window.

• NOTE; If for some reason you cannot update your firmware, you will need to reformat the player first, then, update the firmware after the reformatting process.

I suggest you update the firmware of the player. The update available at Memorex web site:

If that does not work, it may be a problem with the player itself. This product has a 90 day warranty and you can call Memorex Product Support at 1-877-363-6673 between noon and 9pm EST if the unit is under warranty.

Once the unit freezes up what you can do is put a paper clip into the tiny hole located on the unit. This will reset the the player and then try to use it again. You can check the Memorex web site to see if there is firmware update for that unit so you can upgrade it. This might also help the player to stop freezing up.

WHAT EXACTLY DO U NEED TO DO??? PUT MUSIC ON THE MP3 OR FIND THE MUSIC YOU ALREADY DOWNLOADED ON UR COMPUTER HARD DRIVE???

All you have to do to access the files and listen to them, assuming they worked before is access the menu, then select browse all music, you will find your music files there, happens to me. To see your files on the play list section of the mp3 player, Open my computer > Go to your mp3 player > Select the music files > Right click and click add to play list.

Try and reset the player by inserting a pointed object inside the small hole, press and hold for 5-10 seconds to let the player reset. If this doesn't work then connect the player with the computer/charger and let it charge for a while and try a reset after 30-40 minutes. This will resolve your issue. Hook up your mp3 player to your computer
Go to your desktop and double left click on "My Computer"
When it opens you will see listing that says "Devices with Removal Storage" your mp3 player should be listed there.
Right click on your mp3 player, and a window will open, right click on "Open" and now your files/songs should be visible.
Hold the left click down and drag it across all the files/songs that you do not want this will highlight the files/songs you do not want, release,right click and then click on "Delete"
Now you mp3 player should be clear of the files/songs you do not want.
BE CAREFUL and do not delete files needed to operate your MP3 player.

If the unit got wet then the internal components might be damaged. Make sure it is completely dry before attempting to use it again. This player has a reset hole where you can insert a paper clip. <br /><br />If this reset does not work, probably the water that that got inside the player shorted out a board or the battery. <br /> <!-- from fixya rte -->

In the Menu on your MP3 Player, go to settings, then connection, there should be at least two choices. For example MTP, and MSP. Change to the other selection. Make sure it changed, then reconnect to a USB.

Well it should be detevted without the need of any drivers in Windows Xp, if you are using other OS, try installing the support cd that came with your Memorex Player (it is the mini cd(always) in the package).

Try deleting some of the data in your device. then recharge it before connecting to pc to make sure that it is not low battery. Some device didn't work if it does not have any charge. If not reformat your device for it to work

This problem could be easily solved by resetting the player. This device has a tiny hole where you can insert a paper clip or thin object.

Probably the unit got just stuck and needs to be reset. It would be like restarting a computer. I hope this solves the problem.

There are driver on the internet that you can download. I got a laptop that had Windows 7 and all i did was look it up on the internet, get the download, and follow the direction that was given to me. All you have to do is just find it on the internet first.

Here are the possible causes of the problem:

1. Defective battery
2. Loose wire connection
3. Corrupted program

Any of these problems should be checked by a pro or by the manufacturer. Testing the battery, soldering the loose wire or re-install the program, is not a task that we can handle easily. Contacting the manufacturer would be the best way to do.
