You should never need to advance your defrost timer. If your defrost is not working properly, the coil in the freezer compartment will ice up, blocking all airflow. All of your cooling is done there, even the refrig area, so you will never get down below appx. 40-45 degrees.
my first suggestion is to look at the back panel in your freezer for frost/ice build-up. If yes, unplug the unit, open the freezer compartment and let it thaw overnight. If it starts cooling properly, you have a defrost problem. It may be a bad timer(often), thermostat(less frequent), or bad defrost heater(even less).

The evap coil is most likely frozen over inside the freezer. If it is, it is either the defrost thermostat, defrost control or defrost heater at fault.

This uses a dual water valve each with its on solenoid coil. Remove the black cover in back, locate valve and switch wires on the coils. If you now get water to the ice maker change the valve.

You may have a bad relay/overload part number 12555902 runs about $15 but if the compressor is going bad it may not work.If you take the relay/overload off  turn it into your hand and shake it if you it sprinkles out like a pepper shaker go with the OEM part afore mentioned,but if it sounds solid and nothing comes out go with a hard start(SUPCO RC0410 also about $15) it will buy you at least another couple years in which to shop around for a replacement or save the money for a new compressor.You can call Amana to check on the warranty but most only had five years on sealed system.

What tends to happen is that service techs have certain common generic parts in their van, and rather than ordering a part to fit and have a return visit, they fit what they have. Parts seem to be readily available. The compressor is listed but no HP Specs. Sharla, It could possibly be the ice maker rod that tells the ice maker whether it's full or not. If it's in the down position it wants to make ice and it'll make a clicking noise. Lift the rod up if it's down. Hopefully this helps!? Best to you.
