We bought an LG 42

That pop was a "cap" capacitor blowing, open up the TV and look for a burn mark. And of course LG isn't going to fix or supply info for free to fix this for free, that is just good business, I would agree with them..

Before you toss your TV into the dumpster, have you tried resetting the unit to factory settings?
First, you can go into "Expert mode" on the tv by holding down the menu button. After the regular menu button pops up, keep holding down the menu button for another 5 or 6 seconds until the 4 digit lock code entry window appears. Enter the code 8741 to enter expert mode. Here you can change all the expert calibration settings and restore the set back to default factory settings.

LG 42PC1DA one day i was watching tv and the picture just went completely black still have sound, switches on and off as normal but the screen is blank, can anyone please help?

I see so many here with no sound/nopicture issues:ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good.2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signsof damage you can see---burnt parts etc.3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down theproblem.4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set.Answers to issues:1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the genericones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don'tput a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason.2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses astandby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined andsome not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on thepower/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--Iattach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flatand have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating(saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail.3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have tobuy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not.4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over.4_2_2012_2_06_16_am.jpg

My 42pc1d clicks on and of why and can you fix it

There is a problem in the power supply, if you remove the back cover of your tv try to look for bulge up or leaky capacitor, the bulge up is that the top is not perfectly flat and the leaky capacitor has a wet mark at the bottom or an oil spill. This capacitor produces low and unfiltered dc output voltage you should replace this capacitor but be sure to remember the proper position because it has a polarity. Note be sure to unplug the unit before removing the back cover of your tv. Feel free to send feed back good day and best regards.

I have a Plasma TV

Did you tried diferent sources from where you get the image? For example you could try to connect a video camera, laptop, dvd or any other thing you could hook it up in your TV and check if there is still no picture.
If the screen is burned it costs the same or a bit less than a new one
Good luck

The screen on my lg 42pc1da tv is cracked is it

That's a tough one to answer with constantly changing prices, and different prices in different areas, but in most cases, a plasma screen is more expensive to replace than the entire unit (especially if you move to LCD or another technology).
You'll have to call around your area and see what places quote you for a new TV and what shops will charge to get you a new screen.

Shop rate will be $200 and up plus parts.
Yes, it can be caps failures in power supply, Z-SUSTAIN, Y-SUSTAIN boards, you also need to check the fuses on all those 3 boards, they are common failure boards.
See the pictures of the boards here:
