Ink there. My printer does not pick up the paper

The pick-up roller at the rear of the printer probably needs to be cleaned using an alcohol solution as over time it picks up dirt and ink from the paper being fed through the printer, especially if printing on both side by turning the sheets over.

Samsung CLP-315

try to do this set of instruction & solution:

  1. Go to Start | Control Panel | Printers And Other Hardware | Printers And Faxes. Double-click the icon for your printer to open the Documents window and clear any pending print jobs by selecting Cancel All Documents from the Printer drop-down menu
  2. Try printing a test page from the printer, not from Windows XP. Most printers have a built-in test function that's activated by holding down one or more buttons while the printer is starting up. Check your printer's user manual for instructions. If this page prints successfully, you know the problem is either with your connection or with the software in your computer.
  3. Check your printer's USB or parallel connection.
  4. Try printing something simple from Windows' Notepad. To open Notepad, go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad, type a few lines of text in a document, and try printing it. If it successfully prints, the problem is with the software program you originally tried to print from.
  5. Try printing using Windows XP's generic printer driver. Open and run the Add Printer Wizard. When you get to the Install Printer Software screen, select Generic under Manufacturer and Generic/Text Only under Printers (see Figure 2).
  6. Select No for Do You Want To Use This Printer As The Default Printer? (see Figure 3). Click Next.
  7. When prompted on the next screen, tell Windows XP to print a test page. If the page successfully prints, then you probably have a problem with your installed printer driver. Either update or reinstall the driver.

What weight of paper will

The specifications for the CLP-300 say it should take paper of 60gm to 163gm but in practice I have found that 160gm is too heavy and will not feed through as is too stiff.

Will it take 160gm paper?

No - 160gm paper is too heavy and is unlikely to feed through the rollers.

When you installed the Samsung CLP-300 printer software, a utility called Smart Panel should have been installed too - this shows the current status of the printer plus gives access to a Troubleshooting Guide and settings for both the Printer and the Driver as shown in the image below:12_15_2011_6_08_06_pm.jpg

Faint grey printing

According to the service manual for problems with light print image, the cause can be the Developers or High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS). Other possible causes are given as: Developer roller is stained when the toner or developer cartridge is almost consumed. Ambient temperature is below 10 degrees Centigrade. Bad contacts with the HVPS or abnormal output from the HVPS. To replace the Developers you would need to purchase a replacement Imaging Kit CLP-R300A. Any problems in the HVPS would require a factory repair.

The problem is with the developer in the imaging unit. The problem can be fixed by either replacing the imaging unit for $100+ or you can fix it yourself by cleaning the imaging unit. You will need simple hand tools and if you are careful restore the print quality of your printer. Red Light comes on and wont print

There is a lot of faults that cause the red light to turn on, toner cartridge empty, waste toner tank full, paper jam, imaging unit replacement, etc. The only real way to know what the problem the printer is seeing is to use the smartpanel utility on your PC. It will show you what the printer is reporting and how to correct it. Hope this helps you.

How do I fix the constant Home Dev Error problem

This can be fixed by stretching out a solenoid spring on the power cord side of the printer. The solenoid acts as a clutch to stop the spinning developer actuator at the right spot.

Open up the right side (power cord side) of the printer (take off top cover, then take off side cover). Then, find a solenoid (little metal square) that touches the white plastic vertical spur gear. Take the spring off the solenoid. Now, put the spring back on - only this time you will attach one anchor point to the middle of the spring as to pre-stretch the spring for more tension.

The problem is that the spring gets weak over time / the cogs round out over time and the solenoid finger is overcome by the spinning cogs, and resulting in selecting the wrong developer.

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer ONLY WHEN PROMPTED, to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. If not there are errors within the board and might need a consensus before we can suspect the motherboard

You all say that the toner cartridge is okay, so it could be the hole OPC Image Drum or the ITB which is the tranfer Belt.
The Tranfer Belt is behind the Image Unit.
