Emerson EWL20S5 20 in. EDTV-Ready LCD Television - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I don't have any power to the t.v. even though
Small TVs like this almost always are made up of two boards inside - a power board and a main TV board.
And almost always there's a fuse on the power board, near where the power cord goes in.
Checking that fuse is the only thing you can do by yourself.
Your next option is to give the TV in for repair to someone who fixes such things. Chances are high the problem is in the power supply board and is repairable.
However, the cost for doing so can be prohibitedly high as cost of the TV itself is prohibitedly low. I mean you may be better off selling it on eBay for $50 and buying a new one.
I know I'd buy it for $50 there.
The remote control's up channel key for a Emwerson
Have you spelt some drink on the remote? If you have you will probably need to clean the circuit inside the remote. There is a electronic board inside that case, if you can take it apart by the grooves you can expose that circitry. (Some remotes have screws in the battery compartment so becareful) Once you get it apart take rubbing alcohol and a lent free cloth like a babies spit up cloth and clean where the button makes contact to the circuitry.
My Emerson EWL20S5C will not stay on.
Normally, when this happens, the TV goes into " Protection Mode " because of a failing circuit board.
Most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. It's possible that it maybe a bad capacitor or transformer on the power supply board. The most common thing to go out on flat panel TVs is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can'tactually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptoms.
You have a few choices:
1. You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
2. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
3. If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you red light flashing codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15.
4. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV.
I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.
Ewl20s5 Will not power on
Google bad or blown capacitors image and you will see what you need to look for on the boards primary bad caps are on the power board where the power comes into the computer. inverter board can also be issue but rare.
Is the emerson ewl20s5 digitally compatible
I looked up the specs for your TV. It says nothing about a digital tuner at all. I believe you must get a box from your cable provider. I'm sure that they want to keep you around, so they should give you a cable box for free.

EMERSON EWL2005 20" LCD
Impacting the television can cause the video processor to come unmounted to the main board or the LCD panel inside to become disconnected. You need to take it in for repair.
Digiatal tuner
I doubt it. EDTV "ready" usually means that it can read a digital signal if you have tuner. If it were to say "intergrated" that means the tuner is built into the t.v. and you would not need to purchase or rent a tuner.
Lost satellite signal after hooking up an hdtv
Provided you did not make any changes to the cabling through out the house there is no reason that you would have lost satellite signal except if something is in front of the dish, some one moved the dish e.g. child bumping into it if it is on a pole, or there is a major storm in your area e.g. blizzard, hurricane etc. You also may have snow build up that may have caused this issue or a form of wildlife that has decided to use the dish as a perch and is blocking the LNB's. The most likely result would be trying to split a signal that is coming from the dish going to another satellite receiver or the multi-switch. There are a few ways to get a signal to that TV.
1. RESTORE THE SYSTEM TO ITS ORIGINAL CONFIGURATION.
2. Either come off the multi-switch in the attic or outside the home and run new lines to the new receiver if you have one for this TV.
3. You can run new lines from the dish to the new TV if your system has an available port(s).
4. This is the least preferred by most homeowners as it will result in two tvs viewing the same programming- You can put a splitter into the line going from a receiver to the tv and run one of the out ports to the new tv and the other back to the original tv.
I hope this assists you and thanks for using Fix Ya. If I can be of further assistance please let me know.
