after replacing the ink cartridges it took several cleans to come good. I have no idea how to "manually" clean the heads. So I told the printer to do it many (about 7) times. It eventually worked

IT means you  need to reset the purge counter in order to that .
For MFC - 240c
1.Enter mainatanace mode by pressing menu button at time of switch on. and leve the menu button when fax/scan/copy/photocapture button start blinking
2.press *, 8 & 0 and drag the this submenu by pressing mono button to get "purge" eg (purge:9624)
3.Press the 2, 7, 8, and 3 keys in this order to reset the purge count to zero.
4.Press the Stop/Exit . OFF the printer .and turn it on.

Brother Print Unable 50 Error

I have a Brother DCP-130C printer.

There was a printer jam, which has completely been cleared.

However I cannot print because an error code Print Unable 50 error appears or Clean error 50 or 30

I've tried EVERYTHING in the manual but no joy.

Is there a sequence of buttons I can press to clear this error?

No ;-)

The encoder strip switched off the ph and has to be set into place again.
see here how to fix it:

(enlarge the browser window to see pics somewhat better)

An advice:
when you have set the encoder strip in pos. again stick some scotch tape on the top of the ph cover where the strip runs thru to prevend the slipping off again on next paper jam ;-)

Unplug the printer from power cord.Press and hold the "menu" button, then plug the device. You'll see on the LCD screen a "machine error" code 46.
Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.This will reset the purge count value. Then restart the printer, hopefully without the
annoying cannot clean message.

My DCP 130c says machine

My DCP 130c says machine error 4F. Both red warning light and green photo capture light are bliking. What can I do to repair this ? Thanks Gary

Hi

So the Init Unable 4F error means that the machine is unable to initialize, due to a mechanical problem or a foreign object / jam / paper jam inside the machine preventing it from starting up.

Open all the covers (and remove the paper tray and the back cover(s)) and inspect the printer for anything that does not belong to it, reseat or remove your print cartridges and clean any dust or similar out from the machine, also inspect the back cover of the machine, open it and make sure there are no paper jams and noting that doesn't belong there eg paper clip etc..

Once you have done all the above turn the printer on and if the problem remains, pull the power plug or switch it off at the wall (while still having the printer powered on) wait a few minutes and plug it back in and turn on, does the problem remain?
