We have a 42" Hewlett-Packard HD Plasma TV. It's

There's a good chance you have failing electrolytic capacitors either in the power section or the inverter section or both.
Any caps in these sections that look bulged at the top, or bulged/leaking at the bottom need to be replaced.
If you repeatedly turn it on, eventually the screen may come on, but every time you turn it off, the TV will get harder and harder to start up until one day it just won't.
Sometimes you have to do the opposite to start it up and unplug it for 5 mins, then try.

If you aren't tech savvy, don't worry, read the rest of this solution and watch the videos.

If you are handy with a soldering iron and can identify the power supply and inverter / FM section for the backlights, an inexpensive handful of capacitors will likely fix you right up.
Match the capacitance on the capacitors. Go over voltage if you can, and still have them fit.
IE - it's not a bad idea to replace a 10V cap with a 16V or 25V or even a 50V, but don't replace a 680uF cap with a 500uF or a 1000uF (unless you are positive it's only doing ripple filtering, and even then, you should go OVER, not under the uF rating).

Most of the caps that go are 10V 1000uF or 3300uF.

I found some great videos of the procedure (for many Samsungs with the same issue) on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8l0AUj8QUkg&NR=1&feature=fvwp
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7b_nTaZYcU&feature=related

As you can see, this issue spans plasma TVs, as well as large and small LCD TVs and monitors.
The parts are cheap, and skill required is minimal.

I left my laptop unuse 4 about 6mont after d

Sorry to hear about your laptop. It sounds like the battery may need to be replaced. Older laptop batteries will loose the ability to hold a charge as time goes on.

Here are some things to try:
1) Remove the battery from the notebook and try booting up with just the power adapter plugged into the notebook. If the notebook boots then the power adapter is working fine. If the notebook does not boot then the power adapter is no good and needs replaced.

2) With the battery in the notebook, and the notebook off, leave the power adapter plugged into the notebook for a few hours or over night and see if the battery charges.

Hi, I have an 2006

This sound like the power supply board has failed. The electrolytic capacitors on the board may need to be replaced. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH ELECTRONICS REPAIR(soldering ) or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can fix it. >Unplug the set. >Remove the back cover. >look at the capacitors on the power supply board. If the top of any of them are bulging up that is the problem. >You will have to replace ALL the electrolytic capacitors except for the large one.> Use ones with the same farad rating > Use ones with the same or higher voltage rating> Use high temperature rating> Install one at a time to prevent mix-up and keep the polarity correct. > Leave a space between the PC board and the bottom of the capacitors for expansion. They heat up.THIS IS AN INDUSTRY WIDE PROBLEM AFFECTING MANY COMPANIES AND PRODUCTS. One source for some good capacitors is NTE. Try nteinc.com for a local outlet. You can also search for other sources. Some companies even sell all the capacitors in a kit. Total price of parts should be < $20.00

Have a 42" plasma tv that suddenly will not turn

Hi,
I'm assuming that your unit is dead seat.

Here are some DIY steps that may help you fixing the problem.

1. Check the power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity).

2. Check the internal fuse - sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I've advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts on the power supply, you may visit the link http://www.fixya.com/support/r8053361-fuse_keeps_blowing for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

3.If you see that the fuse is intact on the board, don't attempt to touch anything because there some fatal components stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only.

The next steps should be done by an expert or qualified technician because isolating the problem on the power supply is quite technical.

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope it may help you.

Thanks for using fixya.
