Hi:
Have the power supply checked for leaky or bad buldging capacitors on it. This is the most common reason most LCD televisions fail. Also you may have a bad backlight inverter board.

I'm afraid the electronics have been 'spiked' by the lightning. It may have affected more than one module There is little you can do other than having it looked at by a professional, however you may be able to claim on your insurance?

You have a diode arrangement in your power supply that converts the AC power to DC power so that it can be stepped up to operate the high voltage power supply of the set. If those diodes are blown, which happens frequently in a storm, then you have no voltage to your high voltage. You are going to have to check that diode arrangement by making a continuity check both ways on each diode. A diode blocks voltage one way but lets it pass the other way, thus producing a DC voltage.

Sound fading away
I would not think the speakers are defective but rather faulty capacitors in the power supply circuitry if the TV works good for some time.

Green line down centre of screen
Defective or Bad LCD panel.
IT will be cheaper to get new TV than to get it replaced. U can check with local repair shop or look for a panel yourself at parts.com for the price of a new panel.

Vesa screw holes
Most wall brackets are universal for a particular vesa standard, in this case 100mm x 200mm.
This means that the bolts supplied aren't for any particular set.
The Philips 26PF5521D only needs bolts up to about 12mm long.
Try shorter bolts.

There is an input imbalance. Either try connecting your cables to different inputs on your TV, or try connecting to different outputs on your DVD player. (Only worry about the yellow video cable bit initially). Alternatively, try a different cable type; you'll have some ins and outs that don't use RCA connectors.

26" Philips HD ready tv (LCD)
Nothing much you can do. The soft plastic will get worse if you try anything.
The screen could be replaced, but would cost more than the TV.

26PFL5520D/50 DVT PROBLEM
If the lines across the screen are made up of coloured blocks, then the problem is likely to be a weak signal.
Digital channels are broadcast in groups called multiplexes. Sometimes one multiplex may have a weaker signal than others, and so you experience problems with up to 6 channels when all others are ok.
If it is only one or a few channels then just wait and see what happens, because it may be transmitter works.
If you have problems with all channels it could be a connection or antenna problem.
If the lines are just straight lines, then try resetting the TV as follows:
Switch on the TV
Press and hold the menu button on the side of the set. The settings menu will appear. Hold until the menu disappears again.
When you release the button, the TV will take up to about 90 seconds and then reset.
The TV will then show the original screen when the TV was new.
Press ok when shown.
Set language and country settings.
Move down the list and press ok to re-install all channels.

Why my TV is switching off by itself PHILIPS?
It could be a lot of things causing the issue, without electronic knowledge it's going to be hard to diagnose, also a 10 plus year old set isn't worth fixing, parts will run more than the set is worth, time for a new set.
