A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Frequently, issues are caused simply by a break in the signal sent from PC to printer or vice versa. Unplugging and re-plugging the printer allows the small amount of on-board memory on the printer to be cleared, with the result that the PC recognizes the machine properly. Programs continuing to run in the background of the operating system (OS) can cause the signal to be lost. Rebooting the PC ends all programs that may be running and makes a 'clean' start, allowing the signal to be detected.

This could also be a firewall issue. Make sure to allow full access to all Lexmark software and printer communication processes in the program rules/permissions for your firewall.

I'm not familiar with Lexmark but I think your printer is set only to print on black cartridge (black only option) There's something wrong with the settings. Check the settings, look for the color options.

Try to wipe the scanner bed/glass with a soft cloth. If problem continues and the thick black line also appears when making a copy, it could be hardware problem. Then you will need to contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance.

You may need to reset your printer. Unplug the power adapter from the printer.

Your printer probably needs to be reset. First, remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Open the printer and remove the cartridges. Also check and make sure there are no obstructions in the cartridge carrier path. Close the cover. Then unplug the power adapter from the printer.

Try to remove the sheets of paper from the feeder. Open the printer cover and remove your cartridges. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges. Make sure they are properly inserted and secured. Load some paper. Check for the error again.

Make sure to follow these steps: 1. load the appropriate type of paper into the All-In-One. Place the paper against the right side of the paper support with the print side facing you. Make sure you select the paper size for your document. 2. Squeeze and slide the paper guide to the left edge of the paper. 3. Make sure the All-In-One is turned on. 4. Click File -> Print. 5. From Print dialog box, click Properties, Preferences, Options, or Setup (depending on the program). 6. From the Paper Setup tab, select the paper type, paper size, and orientation. 7. Once you have applied all the settings you want in Print Properties, click OK at the bottom of the screen to return to the Print dialog box. 8. Click Print to complete your task.

I am not sure what the light pattern indicates though but try to reset your printer. Unplug the power adapter(small black box where the power cord is attached) from the back of your printer.

Wait at least 10 seconds before plugging the power adapter back in the printer. Also, check and make there are no paper jams.

If the encoder strip has become unseated: 1 Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from the back of the unit. 2 Open the printer's front cover. 3 Pinch the top of the carrier belt and gently move the cartridge carrier to the center of the printer. 4 On the back of the cartridge carrier, there is a small slot that the encoder strip fits into. Gently push the encoder strip down and back up to get it into the slot. NOTE: If the strip is completely out of the slot, it may be necessary to move it first forward and then back. 5 Move the cartridge carrier back to the left-hand side of the printer with the carrier belt. 6 Reconnect the power supply and turn the printer back on
