No communication between computer and printer

There are a number of issues that could cause a communication problem with any USB printer (assuming it is turned on/has power). The most likely is a bad cable. After that, you need to check for a problem with the OS print spooler, a problem with the port (on either the computer or the printer), or a driver problem. Replace the cable with a new one. Connect it to a different port on the computer. If you use a print server or a USB hub, try a direct connection. Look at the list of what is printing. In Windows, open the printers control panel (click Start > Device and Printers or Printers and Faxes, depending on the OS). Then right-click on the printer and choose "See what's printing". Are several print jobs still in the queue? Try to clear these jobs by cancelling them. If you can't cancel them, you can force the print spooler to clear by stopping and restarting the service. In Windows, open the command prompt (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (with Vista or Win7, right click and choose Run as Administrator)). Type "net stop spooler" without the quotes and followed by enter. Then type "net start spooler" again without the quotes and followed by enter. After you see the prompt, restart the computer. After the restart, wait a while before trying to print again. (Note: if you have a fax connected to the computer, you will see a message about the fax service being stopped after the first message. Click Y.) If the printer status is unknown, check the device manage. Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Device Manager (in Win7). Right click on My Computer and select Properties then click on the Hardware tab for XP. Look for a yellow exclamation point in a triangle next to Lexmark. Unplug the USB data cable and then uninstall the Lexmark software. (A quick link is the Uninstall link in the Lexmark folder in the list of All Programs from the Start button.) Download the correct driver from Lexmark http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=EN&page=product&userlocale=EN_US&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&focusedTab=DOWNLOADS#1 . Select the correct OS from the drop down menu. Install the software and then plug in the data cable when prompted. Alternatively, let Windows find the best driver by plugging the USB cable with the trouble-shooter. Right click on the appropriate line in the device manager. (This is not recommended with all-in-ones since Windows often only finds a printer driver and omits the scanner functions.) While you are in the Device Manager, check for a similar yellow exclamation point or red x in a triangle in the section marked Universal Serial Bus. Try to update the driver for the USB controller (again you can right click on this). Next try to reset the printer by removing the data cable and then unplugging the power cord from the printer. Then unplug the power cord from the outlet. Wait a few minutes (if possible, move to a new outlet). Then reconnect the power cord and then the data cable. Turn on the printer if it doesn't come on. Try printing. If possible, try installing the printer on another computer. If the printer still doesn't work, the USB port on the printer is probably bad. If it is under warranty, contact Lexmark. Otherwise, it may be better to replace the printer instead of repairing it. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Scanning Pink

It could be due to your color cartridge. Try to do the clean cartridge function using the printer software on your computer.
  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 1200 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through to clean the print cartridge nozzles.

Try to scan again to verify that the print quality has improved. If not, try to replace your cartridge.

A print job, although cancelled, doesn't leave the printing list.

Please try this approach:
  1. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET STOP SPOOLER (this will stop the print spooler service)
  2. Browse to your windows\system32\spool\PRINTERS\ folder. You should see files there ending in .SPL and .SHD created around the time you tried to print - delete these files.
  3. Browse to Start -> Run... and type in NET START SPOOLER (this will restart the print spooler service)

Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Try to re-seat the cartridges in the printer. Open the printer cover > remove the cartridges > close the printer cover > re-brick you printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in, and re-plug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and close the cover. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

If that doesn't help, the problem could be due to a clogged print cartridge nozzle. Please follow the steps below to fix print quality issues with your model:

  1. On your computer, go to Start menu.
  2. Go to Programs.
  3. Go to Lexmark 1200 Series folder.
  4. Select Lexmark Solution Center.

My lexmark x1270 has power, but will not print from

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

My printed pages come out blank

Try to reseat your cartridges into the printer. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds. When the printer turns on, reinsert both cartridges. Try to print again to verify that the problem is fixed.Long period of non-usage can result to drying of ink and clogging in the print nozzles. Try to clean the cartridge nozzles using the Lexmark software on your computer. Go to Start menu > Programs > Lexmark X1200 Series folder > Lexmark Solution Center. From the Maintenance tab, select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them. Try to print your document again to verify that the problem is fixed. If this does not help, try to insert different known working cartridges or better yet brand new genuine Lexmark cartridges.
