im wondering why you did not connect it to the tv ?? but instead to cable box , does it have a pass thru capability ?? does it need to be off to pass thru ?? as most dvd player don't have a rf output but instead use a hdmi or composite signal output , would it not be easier to connect one of these to a spare input on tv then when u want to use dvd you only need to select the proper input from tvs source button to view the dvd ??

There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. this is all i could find on the internet so not sure if this will help you out. I've seen similar myself in the past and usually it will be a spring off, a brake lever in wrong postion. May be due to slight mechanism phase misalignment. You may have dislodged a tension spring on one of the brakes (brake pads press against reel tables), or the reel brakes are stuck on during FF/REW mode. Trouble is you'll probably need a dummy service cassette to see this clearly. If you had removed the rear loading drive assembly to fit the small belt, on reassembly the phase position of the mechanism is likely to be out, affecting the brake levers. There are alignment holes in the main chassis, the main cam and gears on the bottom of chassis and they must be perfectly aligned, along with the mode switch. You'd need the service manual for phase alignment details as it requires the reference diagrams. It can be fiddly enough with a full alignment manual, without one it's going to be very difficult to realign it, is that's the case.
