The printer status showing offline is more then likely a computer issue then the printer. On the printer, use the menu to select "reports" and then select the printer settings report. If the printer prints the report, then the printer itself is working, and it is a communication issue between the printer and the computer. If you are connecting to the printer with a usb cable, then try moving the usb cable on the computer to another port. If this does not work, try deleting and reinstalling the printer.

The old stand by, unplug, wait 1 min., plug it back in. This will reboot it and may fix it.

Did you check the "answer call after x rings" option?
It sometimes defaults to 7 rings, at which time the sending fax machine has given up already.

You find the settings here: "Fax -> Fax Defaults -> Rings to answer"

When you lift the scanner lid look to the left bottom. you should see a green slider button. If you stick your hand in the output tray and get it rigth under the green slider you will find a lever. Move that thing backwards or forwards, that is your unlocker.

Most likely the printer is asking for paper in the Manual Printer Feeder (not the tray). Try put paper in the MPF.

There's a little blue toggle switch where the copies/scans come out from. Pull the blue switch toward you, turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and turn the printer back on.

This situation has happened to my HP printer. The way that I fixed the problem was to connect the usb cable, then trough the printer software on the computer while computer was connected to the wireless, the printer detected the network through usb cable. Sometimes it takes may be about 15 minutes that my printer detects the network, so I have noticed that I have to give a time to it, because it searches, and searches, and it takes some times.I recommend that you leave the printer on for at least 30 minutes. Check to see that printer detects any other neighbor networks at all, because the network card on the printer may be malfunctioning, and not detecting any network at all. If you can connect your printer to a laptop or a desktop with usb cable and use any software that comes with your printer, it should have the (connect to the wireless ) software facility.That facility will then ask you for your password and it will the set up the printer wirelessly.It is like starting all over again that has happened to me also. I wonder if Dell support can assist you or not, but they should , since they built the printer.Hope all things go well with you.

Drum unit is damaged or scratched. Replace drum. Certainly sounds like a mechanical issue rather than a software issue. I had a similar issue on my laser printer, and replacing the drum solved it.

IF this is a high use printer, there are some other things that might be in need of attention. There is a corona wire, drum and drum wiper that are consumables too.

I am not a tech person by any stretch of the imagination but if it's the thing I had so much trouble finding I can tell you. Put your hand into the area where the printed page comes out , feel along the "ceiling" of this area (mine was in the mid-front, left hand corner). There is a little toggle-type tab. Flip it the other way & try to print again. Good Luck!!!!!!!
