A green stripe is down the center of our screen.

If the line is present in all inputs and modes(including menu) and is a thin vertical line, then there is a problem with the LCD panel.

The only way to fix is to replace the whole LCD panel. The part is very expensive (depends on which part of the serial number sequencing for your model but will cost at least $1000) and the TV needs to be completely taken apart to replace this part.

My tv turned off ..red lamp light blinking

Hi,

There are a number reasons why this might happen:
  • The backlight has gone (Find a dark place and shine a torch into the screen and see if you can see an image in the background, if you see an image then the backlight has gone) - Needs a new backlight (Engineer to remove and fit) or have a new panel fitted.
  • The panel has died - Need a new panel
  • A cable has worked itself loose or is broken
  • The inverter has gone - Need new inverter
  • The driver board is faulty
Thanks

Thin line goes all the way from the top of the

Hi my name is Roety,
I hope I can help you with your issue ,
Sorry to say but the screen is bad, another test is check if you can see the line with the TV off shine a light at the spot where the line is. If this is close to the year warranty, maybe Sony will cover it.
Its not cost effective to buy a panel , it would cost more than a new TV
best of luck

I have just purchased a sony KDL 40W5500. Prior

I Install Sky on a Daily Basis When you start getting pixels on your sky it is normally The sky dish that needs re-alligning as the weather/ window cleaner or something has moved it.

You mentioned Buying GOLD plated. They are a waste of money. The back of your telly is Alley and so is the box so you would see no benefit buying installing a gold plated scart / HDMI lead. there two different metals altogether. curry / comet etc are sale people all they want is your £££

Its a shame you did not live in Newcastle. I could have sorted this out for you.

Tv tries to power up and then shuts off, again and again.

If the fuse were to be open then you would have no lights coming on at all. These days it is very unusual to have an open fuse. You will have to have a technician look at the TV.

Picture not as sharp as it should be

You would need a High Definition cable package. I for instance have Comcast cable with the premium package and High Definition cable box. Also as far as watching DVD's and getting the best picture would be an HDMI cable from player to set. Hope it helps!

Cleaning

It is recommended to use a simple alcohol solution to clean an LCD or PLASMA screen. This solution is made up of 1 part distilled water and 1 part 50% isopropyl alcohol. Be warned that isopropyl alcohol is flammable.
50% isopropyl alcohol is very common. If you find 70%, 91%, or 99% isopropyl alcohol, adjust the formula to use less alcohol and more distilled water.
By mixing these two in a bottle, you will produce a model cleaning solution. Remember not to use tap water -- only use distilled water.
Do NOT use tissues/Kleenex to wipe your screen. That is as ineffective, because they will leave little tissue particles all over your screen . Try and find some microfiber cloth to clean your screen. Cloths that come along with prescribed glasses are usually good.
You may want to clean the rest of the actual screen before moving onto the LCD or PLASMA part. First dampen the cloth with the solution. You should never spray any sort of liquid directly onto the screen. Wipe the screen gently from top to bottom and wait for it to dry.
Be careful not to let the cleaning solution leak into the sides of the monitor. Also, be certain that you do not press hard on the LCD or PLASMA screen. You can permanently damage an LCD or PLASMA screen by pressing on it too hard.

If there is just dust on your screen, there is no need to fully clean it. To remove dust all that must be done is to wipe it away with a microfiber cloth. Simply wipe your screen from end to end gently with the cloth. For smoke filled room, It would be good to clean it once a month when the smoke is not around during cleaning.
