I don't hear any sound

Hi There, You probably didn't have the mic option in the menu turned on. Go into menu, find the audio settings and set mic to on.
Thanks, mr cicmo

No sound

Hi There, the DMCLZ7 has motion video recording with audio. Go into the menu option that shows you where to turn on the mic. Set to turn on and you should be ok.
Thanks, mr cicmo

Digital camera keeps shutting off !

first check the specs in the manual, it may have a specific battery it requires. if you are ok and is still not working, there may be a loose contact at the terminals and you need an expect to fix it properly for you. i would love to but am far away (Ghana). all the best. thanks

Lens cover only opens half-way

If the lens barrel isn't fully extending on power up, that will prevent the lens cover shutters from springing open. There is a stationary prong that pushes the cover closed when the barrel is retracted.

Does the camera work otherwise? Take pictures thru the half open lens?

Getting to the lens

well, frustration is something common in this cases, I don`t have the intention to give you more of this but try to be calm cuz it is always possible that the camera will still have problems even after fixing. That camera is not so expensive so think of that and try this out: the lens structure "cannon" is very delicate, a single flase maneuver and you will be out of the game. Place the parts over a soft material, like a soft clean rag or something like that to avoid falling/crashing problems. If you can identify that very very little motor that moves the lenses in and out, separe ir from the structure or just make sure that motor wont be forced while you work. You might not be able to take it out, in that case try moving the gears so they wont be moved.

the structure is sustained by just one or two metallic axis and then you only have a plastic structure tellescope style...
That structure usually stucks for dirt or problems in the structure, yours is obviously the sand... you dont need to disassemble the structure just try to find a little open space or slot and use an AIR SPRAY like "blowing plus" or some like that, you can surely buy it for about 10 dollars or less in a shop, even better if you can get to some sort of air compressor...

Just need to clean the sand by blowing the structure with clean air of some kind. If you insist too much with the lens structure you could brake it so I would not recommend it. It seems you are already tired so better to try cleaning with air, all the structure and the camera also, air wont give more problems.

best luck to you.

Help

If its a flat cable, they are all attached by a piece of plastic that must be moved, either up or down, deppending on its position to lock/unlock the cable. Its simple and easy but you have to be carefull to find that piece of plastic and while you handle it. It is always attached to the board, maintainig the flat cable firm and steady. (hope tha helps you); otherwise if its not a flat cable and its a simple common round cable, it does not matter if its thin or not, it is always attached by a simple connector that fixes it to a series of pins, metallic pins on the board. Those round cables are usually just connected in one part while the other is fixed with soldering material, in those cases be very carefull. G luck.
