for example, if you capture a video with your camera, it automatically creates 2 files: a thumbnail = a picture, and the movie. You're probably trying to view the thumbnail. Camera was dropped and now pictures take but are completely black

As has been explained many times, dropping a camera damages it. Damaged cameras do not work. They are what is technically known as 'broken'. You will have to get it repaired.

Low battery

The manual says: The camera turns off immediately even when battery power is full. The remaining battery power is low even if new batteries are inserted.•The remaining battery power may not be displayed accurately, and the camera may suddenly stop working, when the type of battery and the settings on [BATTERY TYPE] are not identical. However this is not a malfunction. Depending on the batterybrand and the operating temperature, or if exhausted batteries are used, the remaining battery power may not be displayed accurately.and:Use sufficiently charged batteries when using Ni-MH batteries. You also should set the correct battery type in the setup menu. So put in alkaline / NiMH or oxyride. According to what you are using. Before you panic, buy a set of alkaline batteries, to make sure your camera is ok. Perhaps you are using rechagable batteries who are not ok anymore.

I have a Panasonic Lumix

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer. The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries. Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa. Organize edit and share your photos

Lens carriage moves back and forth. Get msg "shut-down and restart the camera". Unable to click pictures

As soon as the camera encounters an error, It will do this. Can be a software error, can be a hardware error. To reset the camera, you should switch it off, remove the battery for a minute or so and than replace the battery. That should solve the problem. It is like a cold boot from a computer. If the error comes back, it could be a hardware error. then you have to contact the service centre closest to you. Be sure the battery is charged and the contacts are clean and shiny.

Should i leave my camera on the battery charger

I recommend not leaving it on the charger, especially if unattended. Some chargers get pretty hot and in rare cases malfunction and catch fire. Better to be safe than sorry. I keep an extra battery charged in case I need it.

How can I clean the INSIDE of a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7 lens?

Unscrew the entire lens assembly from the body. The inner lens cannot get debris inside it but the outside of it and the inside of the protector lens can. It's a good idea to do this cleaning in your bathroom with the shower on hot but not visibly steamy as this will cut the airborne dust by 90%.
