PRINTER MAKES A LOUD SOUND LIKE A MACHINE GUN WHEN IT PRINTS

Turn off the Printer
open the Front access Door, Check if there is bits of paper or dirt on the ROD that moves the Cartrige/carriage.
Move the Carriage freely 5-6 times from left to right ( it should move smoothly )
Remove the Cartridges, Clean the contacts on the Cartridge ( golden Contacts)
Open the Rear Access door, Clean the Rollers with lint free cloth.
Close the Rear access door and front door
Power on the Printer. If the grinding noise continues, Unplug the power cable from back of printer ( while printer is on ) and while holding the # and 6 button, connect it back.
It should go thru alignment process and the grinding noise should be gone. If it doesnt, probably.. its time for new printer of HP again.

Computer does not detect printer

What all have you done so far? Is the printer brand new and did it come with everything you need like the printer cord and the installation cd? If so, the first thing you need to do is run the cd, then immediately following, plug the printer cord in from the computer to the printer (and don't forget to make sure the printer is plugged into the wall outlet for power). After you put the cd in, follow the instructions exactly word for word. You shouldn't have any problems. Let me know if you do.

Hi,

If you do not have the installation disk, you can download the installation driver and software from manufacturer's website by clicking this link
  • On the page which opens, select the operating system of your computer (Windows Xp/ Vista..) from the drop-down menu and click the "Next" button. Then download and install the required drivers and software.
  • Note: The list of available drivers will load only after selecting the operating system of the computer.
Hope this solves your problem. Thanks for using FixYa.

My hp j5780 all in one printer is saying 'close

I was having this problem as well. HP has a tutorial on this problem:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c01050739&dlc=en&product=3301296

However this document stopped just short of solving my problem. When I got to step 3, I found that the metal lever referenced in the document was missing from my printer. I have no idea what happened to it. This metal lever, when present, depresses a contact switch when the cover closes and permits the printer to function. If the metal lever is absent, the contact switch is not depressed and the printer believes the cover is still open.

However, the instructions don't say what to do when the metal lever is missing ... other than service the printer.

HP technical support was no help. They advised me to buy a new printer. However, I discovered a work around: I unscrewed the two screws in the top of the cover and placed a dab of sticky tack on the contact switch. Then I put a carefully folded square of aluminum foil atop the sticky tack. When I screwed the cover back down, this arrangement pushed down on the contact switch and the printer resumed function.

Hope this information helps you.

CAN'T GET HP OFFICEJETJ5780 WORKING.

Did you clean with alcohol?

If this doesn't help ... you will need new cartridges ... Your son sent you the printer ... maybe he can send you some new cartridges. Maybe you can purchase them online???

I am not a fan of refilled cartridges ... I have never had any luck with them ... others will tell you different ... but I have never had luck with them.

Internal DRS error when scanning

Hi,

When you go to do the scan using the "HP Solutions Centre" "Scan Document" button (press this now).
Click on the "Change Settings" button (lower right side of scan window) in the window that opens. This opens the "Scan Document Button" window. Make sure the "Show a preview scan." box is ticked (In Button settings bottom right of window.
Click on the "Advanced Document Settings..." button (Right Hand side 2nd under "Scan Type)
Change the "Output Resolution (ppi) for Document as Image:" to 200. While here, check the correct language is selected. I also tried an Output Resolution of 600ppi. This seemed to make no difference as the system defaults back to 300ppi when the scan is carried out, regardless of what has been selected, but still scans as expected instead of erroring. For some reason I have yet to discover, simply changing the ppi removes the erroring!!
While here (in the "Advanced Document Settings..."), now would be a good time to change the scan to "Black & White" which in itself reduced my scan from 24.5MB to 1MB The only thing you'll need to do then is, after the scan, adjust the "Black and White" level manually for clearest picture. I got the best results this way. If you forget to select this at this point, don't worry, it can be done from the next window (HP Scanning)
Now click the "OK" button. This takes you back to the "Scanning from... Scan Document button (HP Solution Centre) window. Now click on the "Scan" button (in the "Scanning from...Scan Document Button (HP Solution Centre)" window.
Now you'll be in the "HP Scanning" window which is where you can make any final changes you deem neccessary. You can also see how big your file is and how each change makes a difference to the size of your file. Note that this is not the storage size. It is the size of the "working in ram" file.
When the document is the way you want it, then select finish. This time, it should go through to the final program as expected. Don't expect every character to be correctly recognised, especially with any hand written documents. Tables are especially notoriusly bad.

Hope this helps. Good luck and I'll let you know if I find anything else to help.
When it works, it works well. In the mean time......

The Officejet J5780 has a error message of out of paper@

First of all make sure there is no paper pieces stuck inside the printer. Now ..!

Unplug the power cable ofthe printer.
Unplug the USB cable from the Back of the printer and make sure it is stand alone printer.

Now,
Take out the duplex-er ( A box at the back of the printer which has two buttons at the ends of it which you can press to detach it from the printer :- It is used for duplex printing ) from the back of the printer.
Once you take it out you can see the ROLLERS and the ROD which takes the printer page and rolls back to give you the out put.

Take a lint free cloth and clean the rod and rollers. Try to move the rollers in clock wise or anti clock wise direction. If it moves fine Other wise hardware issue.

Now attach the Duplex-er back to the printer.
Now Reset the printer:-

To reset it.
Connect the printer power cord to the Wall Outlet or Wall Jack.
Make sure it is not connected to the Serge Protector or power strip.

Partial reset :-
Now on the printer itself. --> Press and hold the
# and 3 button at the same time. Now take out the Power cable from the back of the printer and wait for 20 sec. Now put the power cable back in the printer. Now release the two buttons. ( Note :- remember you need to hold down the # and 3 button the hold time )
(On the printer screen it should say Part nvm reset.)

Now try to turn on the printer and check if it shows the out of paper option. If it works Perfect. If not then do this :-

Semi-Full Reset:-
Open the front door and take out all the cartridges from the printer. Now close the door.
Now on the printer itself. --> Press and hold the
# and 6 button at the same time. Now take out the Power cable from the back of the printer and wait for 20 sec. Now put the power cable back in the printer. Now release the two buttons. ( Note :- remember you need to hold down the # and 6 button the hold time )
( On the printer screen it should say Semi-Full rest )
The printer might shut down automatically or may be it won't. At this point Put the cartridges back into the printer and then turn on the printer if it was shut down.or If the printer is on turn it off and then switch it back on.

The problem should be resolved up till now.
If still the problem Exist Call HP as the product has gone bad.

HP J5780 printer is printing backwards

Hello,

You may have the Mirror image turned on.

Open a job to print. Select File>Print. When the Print window opens, select Preferences, then click on the Advanced tab.

Look for the Mirror Image option. If it says ON, click on it and change it to OFF. Then click OK.

Mirror Image is mainly for iron on transfers.

I have a hp printer officejet J5780 All imn one.

I have found this model has a bad buildup of black ink in the right carriage bay chamber. With the printer on, open the carriage access lid and pull the power cord before the cartridge carriage can move all the way to the right side. Then gently push back the cartridge holder on the right if it's in your view, so you can see if there is a collection of black ink. The tri-color cartridge has a preventive bracket that doesn't seem to build as much as the black one. Anyway, once you've cleared any dripped ink cones or globs, plug the printer back in, turn it on, and if you get the Carriage Jam error one more time, press OK, and it should work well if that was the block on the carriage movement. I hope this helps you to get printing again.
