"Unable to print 50" error-won't print or turn

Hello,

It seems like the printer has a mechanical problem, the cartridge carrier is unable to move or something is stuck inside the printer preventing it from functioning properly.

If you open the scanner cover and can not see a obvious problem, not even after looking it over with a flash light carefully, then it might be a jammed peice of paper somewhere along the paper path that we can't see at this time.

Go over these instructions I've posted earlier

Start by following the steps below to get the paper out from the machine.
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Remove any paper trays. Inspect them for wrinkled or damaged paper.
  3. Also open the back cover of the printer if this model has one.
  4. Open any other doors that give access to the printer's paper path and to the toner or ink cartridge.
  5. If necessary, remove the toner or ink cartridge. Place it away from light/ sun light to avoid damaging it.
  6. If you find a piece of jammed paper, remove it by holding it with both hands and pulling firmly. The goal is to keep the paper from tearing. If several pieces are jammed together, try pulling out the middle piece first to loosen the jam.
  7. If the paper does tear, try rotating the roller gears manually to free the paper. Don't force anything, though. Do this step especially if the jam message comes up repeatedly without any obvious paper jam, there may be a small tear of paper inside.
  8. Ones the printer is free of paper Replace the toner or ink cartridge and paper trays, close any doors you opened and turn the printer back on.
  9. If the printer paper jam message still appears, then there is still some paper in the printer. Reinspect the paper path.
  10. see alternative if the problem is still not solved.

alternative :
Load a piece of thick paper, for example photo paper and press the resume button (may be diffrent button on diffrent models) a few times to the printer picks up the paper and puts it through the machine.

Or you could also try feeding the paper throught the machine yourself, but it might make the problem worse if done with too much force.

Brother mfc-440cn has error unable to print 4f

The service manual says it could possibly be a bad Main Board or a power supply problem, but it always turns out to be a broken printhead. If it's under warranty (one year) get to an authorized service center and Brother will cover all the costs except your time and gas. If it's just past warranty, call Brother's customer support and beg. Sometimes they issue work orders for warranty service on machines that are past their warranty.
If it's out of warranty, I'd recommend giving up on it. The parts are expensive, it's time-consuming (expensive), and you can buy a replacement machine pretty cheaply. www.BrotherMall.com lists refurbished, more advanced machines for $90.

I have been having a

please find above, your service and repair manual. This should help you remedy your issue. below is your user manual.

Now often these printers will NOT work without ORIGINAL cart's also some don't like refilled.. What can happen though, is the ink often drys in the lines, themselves, and these can be cleaned out, with water, sometimes the actual print head is blocked, again this must be cleaned before it will work.
have a look at these posts, below, they have pertinent info about this all.

My fax machine will send faxes but not receive

Hi,

Manual mode turns off all automatic answering functions unless you are using the Distinctive Ring feature or you are using an external answering machine on the same line as the Brother machine.

*Distinctive Ring is a function of your Brother machine that allows a person with one line to receive fax and voice calls through two different phone numbers on that one line. Brother uses the term "Distinctive Ring," but telephone companies market the service under a variety of names, such as Custom Ringing, Personalized Ring, Smart Ring, Ring Master, Ident-a-Ring, Ident-a-Call, Data Ident-A-Call, Teen Ring, SimpleBiz Fax & Alternate Number Ringing and BT Call Sign.

  1. Setting the Receive Mode

    1. Press Menu.
    2. Press the up or down arrow key to select Initial Setup.
    3. Press OK.
    4. Press the up or down arrow key to select Receive Mode.
    5. Press OK.
    6. Press the up or down arrow key to select Manual.
    7. Press OK.
    8. Press Stop/Exit.
Receiving Faxes in Manual Mode
  1. Lift the handset of a telephone that is on the same line as your Brother machine.
  2. When you hear the sending machine's fax tones (short beeps that occur at regular intervals), do one of the following:
    • If the telephone you answered is near your Brother machine or connected to its EXT jack(socket), press Black(Mono) Start or Color(Colour) Start.
    • If the telephone you answered is not connected to or near your Brother machine, press *51 (*91 for New Zealand) on its dial pad.
  3. Your Brother machine will produce receiving tones.
  4. Replace the telephone handset. Your Brother machine will begin to receive the fax.

< Easy Receive (Fax Detect) >
The Easy Receive (Fax Detect) feature allows you to receive faxes in Manual Mode by simply lifting the handset of a telephone that is on the same line as the Brother machine. Your Brother machine will automatically generate fax receiving tones, at which point you can replace the telephone handset and wait for your fax to be received and printed.

Your Brother machine's Easy Receive (Fax Detect) feature is turned ON by default. To adjust your Brother machine's Easy Receive (Fax Detect) setting, please follow these steps:

Press Menu.
  1. Press the up or down arrow key to select Fax.
  2. Press OK.
  3. Press the up or down arrow key to select Setup Receive.
  4. Press OK.
  5. Press the up or down arrow key to select Easy Receive or Fax Detect.
  6. Press OK.
  7. Press the up or down arrow key to select On, Semi or Off. *In some brother machines, Semi may not be in the options.
If you choose Semi, your Brother machine will only answer an incoming fax if you answer using its handset or by pressing the Hook, Hook/Hold, Hold, Speaker Phone or Tel/R key on its control panel.
  8. Press OK.
  9. Press Stop/Exit.

Note Here are a couple of points to keep in mind:

  • If Easy Receive (Fax Detect) is ON, but your Brother machine doesn't automatically answer the incoming fax when you lift the extension telephone's handset, press *51 (*91 for New Zealand).
  • If you send faxes from a computer that is on the same telephone line as the Brother machine and the Brother machine intercepts the calls, turn Easy Receive (Fax Detect) OFF.
Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.

My printer mfc 440 brother not recognizes new

Hi there maximum time we found it is a the head problem. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. For resolve the problem please follow these.

Open the printer and wait for the carriage to slide over. Some how if its not come then Unplug the printer & Manually slide the carriage.
Now Remove the ink cartridges from the printer head & Use wet warm cotton swab or use alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.
Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab. After finished it make the head dry then fix it back. Now Try to print something now
If that does not work then follow the next step.

Remove the printer data cable & restart the PC & printer. Then fit back the data cable & turn on the printer. Hope that's start working , if no luck then Uninstall the printer driver & restart the PC & Printer both again. Now install the driver of the printer and connect it with PC ,Turn on printer & go for a test print from the printer preference. Thanks & waiting for your reply.

My MFC465CN Wont print, I am missing Magenta will

Yes missing the magenta ink will cause it not to print. This is because its a color inkjet machine that uses one printer head for all four inks, so when one of them go empty you will need to replace that one for it to work.

Brother MFC-665CW has error code 51, no paper

Hi

Error code 51 means that there is due to wate ink pads which are full. You'll need to clean these pads to remove the error message. Also check for any small bits of paper stuck under the printhead (check under the carriage). Try removing the cartridges and check for any bits of paper. Before doing any of the above said things please turn off the printer and unplug it from power source.

If this doesn't work then its an issue with the purge unit. The purge unit is responsible for carriage movement on the chrome bar.

Please tell me if you need further assistance,

Have a MFC-440Cn and cant get it to fax. I am

The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would be the connection to the phone lines.

Make sure the telephone wire is plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without splitters or extensions.

If you still cannot send a fax, try another telephone wire and jack.
