Why does my samsung 61" DLP Standby/Temp and Lamp light flashes 29
These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

HL-6187W, picture has vertical lines
If you can post a picture of what the lines are I can assist with the possible causes. I would assume digital board or DMD/ light engineBut a pic would help make it easier to figure out whats going on with the set.Respond to this same post for assistance.

Vertical white lines
That answer I agree makes no sense. Most of these sets have NO vertical hold and if did it will not cause the lines.A brief educated guess:Set has a main board that communicates and controls the screen--tests for that are not simple (checking waveforms with a scope and signal generator). The model indicated here is a DLP that uses a lamp (let me know if model listed is not the one you have). In DLP sets aside from main/digital board you also have a optical light engine---it processes all signal in and out to the screen.Optical engines do fail and cause some simple and some complicated picture issues. Some will even cause the set to "lock up" with a picture or strange looking screen---clue to this is you have to shut the set off by pulling the power cord. The set may be old enough they do not really want to help you or even talk about it.

Loud buzz/whirring noise, need help diag and fix
If Samsung the color wheel (part number BP96-01579A) is suspect number 1.Wheel turns at over 8,000 rpm and commonly fails= High pitched sound or fan like sound---and when it fails (shatters) you will have a grinding sound and set should shut down. There is an easy way to know---with owner manual remove the lamp unit (its a cartridge) and look where the lamp faces--if pieces of the wheel are missing etc the wheel is gone. Most of the wheels are customer replaceable if you are handy. You Tube even has video instructions for most models for this repair--most sources that sell the part also provide instructions--for a first time person doing this it takes around a hour.see attached photo of typical color wheel.

Power on and off
Cycling power on/off - check for any of these:-bulged electrolytic capacitors in the power supply or elsewhere (replace)-circular cracks on solder joints on any through-hole mounted components like capacitors, resistors, diodes, transistors, voltage regulators, transformers, connectors etc. (resolder)-loose or dirty contacts on pins of any connector including main power chord connector inside housing (disconnect, clean, reconnect)-other damaged or loosely soldered components (most of these are usualy quite small surface mount parts so it's quite difficult to see if they are damaged and will usually require a skilled technician)of course the problem could be somewhere else, but the above suggestions include some of the most common possible causeshope you can get it to work fine again.regardstriarcuate

At first my tv began dimming over time, then went
Wow a shattered lamp huh? Well that's very odd, indeed. OK well maybe the lamp inverter is faulty? Although, I personally have never experienced a lamp that's exploded like that in all my 35 years of servicing? I wonder IF it maybe just a faulty lamp, perhaps try another? BUT FIRST you will have to test the inverter and PSU to make sure it's all OK. You MUST get a service manual for your set. Alternatively, get in a professional, as I fear you maybe going to be spending good money after bad as they say...You can always just ask for a "Quote"anyway, as to costings and actual problem, and go from there, doing this also may diagnose the problem too? So that if you decide not to go ahead, then at least you will know exactly whats wrong.
