Brother and other printer manufacturers are preventing use of non-OEM ink to stifle competition.

Open the panel on the back of the machine and have a close look and the fuser unit. I suspect you either have a sheet of paper wrapped around the fuser or more likely the teflon sleeve on the fuser roller has been damaged. The cost of a fuser is very close to the cost of a new machine. If yours was a multi-function unit I would buy a new stand-alone printer and strip it for parts as that is cheaper than the parts.
