Dell PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 DLT Tape Drive Questions & Answers
Tape eject from drive
Hi. This is from Dells site regarding automatic ejection of tape once inserted:
The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape drive reads and writes DLTtape
VS1 cartridges. The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape drive can read - but
not write - DLTtape™ IV cartridges written using the DLT1/VS80 format. NOTE: The PowerVault 110T DLT VS160 Tape
drive automatically ejects any other cartridge types and any cartridges
whose format it cannot read. Make sure all cartridges that you want to use
for writing are DLTtape VS1 cartridges.
Perhaps your cartridge is improperly formatted or is of the incorrect type?
PowerVault 110T tape is stuck. We have already
Hi Kw.... what is actually stuck is the tape itself. There's a phillips head screw accessible through the bottom of the drive (centered under the tape cartridge) that can be used to wind the tape back into the cartridge. After that, carefully unhook the end of the tape from the mechanism, wind that last bit in, then manually actuate the solenoid on the right side of the drive and pull the release lever to release the tape.
That saves your tape -- but your drive is still probably dead.
Replacement 40/80 DLT are still pretty expensive on ebay, but 35/70 are dirt cheap ($50) and can use the same tapes if you can deal with the slightly reduced capacity. Of course you won't be able to read your old backups, but you can reuse the tapes to make new backups at 35/70.
If you buy a used drive, be sure to start over by testing restores, etc, before you trust it - and certainly don't overwrite all your old tapes before you do that!

Thanks for choosing Fixya!
Both Fault and Clean lights are on
It is nearly impossible to make a guess about a hardware fault without any additional information. The most common problem I know of though, is using a cleaning tape too many times. After about 2o uses, they pretty much don't clean anymore. If it's possible that you think you're cleaning the heads, but using too old of a cleaning tape, you may want to replace it. Otherwise, a hardware fault will have to be looked at internally.
Backup Problem
80GB is the non compressed and 160GB is fully compressed. Based on my experience youll never get a compression rate of more than 1.5 to 1, so you should expect to get more than 120GB on the tape.
The issue that you are having is that you are using the drivers that either are built into windows or came with the tape drive and not the driver from symantec.
Go into Tools->Wizards->Device Configuration Wizard and follow the step to "Install tape device drivers". This should take care of the compression issue.
Operating System question
I don't KNOW that this will work, but what I'd reccomend is that you try using the drivers for windows 2000 on your windows XP machine
a list of dell drivers and support for the powervault is here:

DLT VS160
red LED blinkin suggests the drive is reporting some sort of internal error, if you can see no obvuios problem (something jammed in the mechanism, ect ect) take it to someone who can dismantle it and check for dry joints, jamming things like that
I want to know about some adventures video games?
Check out Big Fish Games. It is a subscription service but they have all types of games including adventure and hidden object. You can also tryp Pogo since they have both a fee and subscription service. Last, but not least, you can try one of your local computer stores or the electronics section of "big box" stores like Target, Walmart, Kmart, etc.
