Hi i hav purchased a Dlink dir 300 router. is this

Yes if you consult the manual that came with the router it will show you how to connect the modem to it and setup the DSL (PPPOE)settings. Some Modems though already have the PPPOE settings within the unit and then the router would just need to be set to automatic. You will need to configure from the PC but afterwards you can shut down all your PC's on the network at anytime.

Dl-514 d'link can't read signal from macbook

Perhaps the reason it has been sitting around at work for some time is that someone just didn't have the heart to throw it away after it went afoul?

Try resetting the thing by removing power, pressing in the little reset button on the back, holding that button in whilst re-applying power. Hold it in for 30 seconds after you plug it back in. That should cause the unit to reset.

Unable to connect with dlink300 router

You must configure first its settings both on your network card and router. See you manual.

First you must connect your internet directly to the computer then get its DNS settings, jot it down. Then connect the router lanport1 to lan card port of your computer using LAN cable. Under lan properties goto TCP/IP settings input the default IPaddress 192.168.0.1 of the router then its subnet mask commonly 255.255.255.0, the router's default gateway, input the DNS settings of your ISP 2 of the set.

Then goto default router's utility web. Open internet explorer, key in router's ip add 192.168.0.1 you should go to router's configuration log in user = admin, pass = just hit enter. Set your time and date then save. You could also test its connection by pinging the IP address of router. on windows DOS. Type ping 192.168.0.1 you should get 4 lines.

If everything is set. Connect the internet cable(UTP/LAN cable) to its WAN port of the router then test to browse the internet. If not then change the DNS settings with the remaining set (on Lan setting).

If I miss something just leave a comment.

Router stopped working after "reset"

Unfortunately, your router is now disconnected from the network after you pushed the reset button. You now have to reconfigure the router.

I have a dir 300 router that when i try to hook it up it i cant

Let me clarify this  your internet works when your PC is hooked up directly to the modem....
When you connect the router between the pc and the modem the internet does not work....
This sounds like the configuration settings inside the router need to be setup or adjusted.
Go to the web browser and type in 192.168.0.1 and for the username type admin and then leave the password blank hit enter and it should sign you into the router. Follow the setup wizard and everything should work just fine.
Hope it Helps!

Our wireless router is completely dead. No lights at all.

If you have tried plugging the router into known good power outlets the I would say to just throw it away and replace it. Not sure where you are located but you can replace that level of router with a brand new one for less than $25.00.

Here's an example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=4093&Description=router%20802.11b&name=%2410%20-%20%2425

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa.

Wont connect to internet

I might advise you to reconfigure the DI-514 Wireless Router, Access the IP address 192.168.0.1 using the Internet browser and configure as Dynamic IP address. You got a red light because the router is not configure yet or no Internet connection from your provider.

I can not aces in my ruter i frogoth my user name

Hello,

My name is Armymason, I have the solution to your problem. You need to reset the Router http://office.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/dlink_systems/di514_1.html here is the manual in it should explain how to do a hard reset. I believe for that model you need to have it unplugged and use a pin to hold in the reset button, while holding the reset plug in the router and wait 5 seconds before releasing the reset button. Now it should be set back to factory and all you have to do is enter in the default user name and password. Of course doing this you will have to reset all your settings.

If this solution isnt satisfactory, I suggest using our Premium service.
Thanks,
Armymason

Want to use Dlink DI-514 with Qwest modem to hardwire 2 computers

Believe it or not, Actiontec modems from Qwest are setup as a router already (even though ports are missing from it). You should use a switch instead of another router. Otherwise you will have to configure the DI-514 to act as a switch rather than a router. This is done by assigning a new starting IP address into your DI-514. By default both routers use 192.168.0.1 as the default. You will have to plug the DI-514 seperately into a computer (to take it off the network) and assign a new starting IP address for the DI-514 such as 10.150.1.1 for example. Then you will be able to get it work. I would strongly recommend using a switch instead and turn the wireless on the modem itself (this is why the modem is the router). It will save you some headaches if the power goes out.

Cannot remember my personal password

Hello,

The default password is one of these

admin
password
...or there is no password in the router

The login is either

admin
...or the login field is blank

If none of those work, press the reset button on the back of the D-Link router for 30 seconds. Then navigate to 192.168.0.1 and enter one of the combinations above to log in.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I'll monitor this thread.

I have a dlink dl524

Hi, I will lend a hand if I can.

Important Note! Use a wired connection to your router when setting up security.

There are four basic steps to setting up wireless security, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router
2) Change the router login password/username
3) Change the network name, or SSID
4) Enable WPA encryption

Here are the details, taken from the Dlink site:

1) Login to your router.
Type the router address in the address bar of a web browser. For this router, the default is
192.168.0.1

You should see a popup box. If you have not changed the password, enter username: admin and leave the password blank.

This should bring up the configuration screen/user interface.

2) Change the router password.
If you haven’t set a password, this is a good place to start. Go to Admin > Tools. Set new admin and username passwords and click 'Apply'.

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Home > Wireless, and change the SSID from ‘default’ to anything you like –as long as you can remember it. It is case sensitive, and you can usually use up to 32 letters – but don’t use something that could identify you, or your location. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

4) Enable encryption
Still in Home > Wireless, select WPA-PSK.

Under ‘Passphrase’ you should enter a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers ( eg - 456HapPY2009toyou8899). It is case sensitive.

The passphrase is also called the network key, and sometimes WPA shared key, PSK, pre-shared key, WPA-PSK, authentication key.

Note down the passphrase/network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. Click ‘Apply’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen. (There are other options you can configure at a later stage if you wish.)

When you next connect wirelessly, you'll see the router with its new name in your 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps, but if it is not clear or doesn't work, please come back to Fixya. Good luck...
