Sony DW-G120A DVD RW Dual Layer Burner Questions & Answers
How can i burn files
CDBurnerXP is a good, free disc burning program that can do what you need. Rather than try to duplicate the information here, I'll just say that help is
here on their website that explains how to use the program. It's quite simple, though. You just drag-and-drop the files you want to burn to the program's layout window, and when you're done adding files you click the "burn" button.
Yes hello the problem is
Hello Ove,
-
Download and install CCleaner
(free) from Piriform
-
Run the cleaner to remove old
un-needed temp files
-
Select the StartUp tab and look
for any programs that you know you installed but no longer use or
need, and disable them. Caution, do
not disable any system files unless you absolutely know what they
do and that you do not need them.
-
Run the Registry cleaner, when
asked if you want to backup the registry, select YES,
and save to a file you will remember just in case. I have used this
program hundreds of time on many different system and it has never
caused a problem, but you want to be safe, backup the Registry.

If asked about a particular file
that it wants to clean, select "yes to all"

Reboot
Windows should reinstall the drive when
the computer boots back up.
If this does not resolve your problem,
try the following.
If you take all these step and you
still can not burn a DVD -R, chances are your DVD burner needs
to be replaced. Good Luck.
It just won´t open, i
I would turn the computer off the try a paper clip. You may need to "feel" up or down to find the ejector too (or press a bit further). Or, lift up gently on the drive door when you try to open it.
I want to copy over 2 hours, with a 120 minute
You can, you just need a program that will lower the quality.
Do you have any video editing software or DVD authoring software?
I would recommend MovieFactory 6 Plus or VideoStudio X2 Pro from Corel.com
You can download free trials from Corel.com, but I don't think they sell X2 Pro anymore they are now up to X3 and I am not sure how well it works.
Refuses to burn dual layer disks. Have tried
Find, download, and install the latest "firmware" for the Sony DVD-writer -- if the unit does not recognize the special "tags" written onto the 1st record of each "blank" dual-layer disk, you need the latest firmware.
Burns very slowly and plays back slowly and with interference
Could be a couple of things. 1 the software that works the drive could be playing up, but 2 more likely that the drive itself is on its last legs.
These bare drives are now so cheap that I would just replace it and see what happens when you put the new on in.
You don't have to replace like for like, juts choose one you fancy.

Will Not reconise Cd or DVD in the Drive
Yes, this drive is basically dead. You can find pretty cheap prices for new drives at www.pricewatch.com
If the drive door closes on a cd or dvd that you want and it will not open back up, use a straightened paperclip and push it into the little hole near the door on the drive, the door will pop open then.
Can not copy large dual layer data file written with NERO 6
According to other sources (in Afterdawn) the problem lies with the media. Memorex
(Ritek) have apparently dumped a lot of cheap quality media into the market which
do not have a smooth layer transfer. Apart from that, I also noticed several badly
recorded discs (compared to some Mitsubishi discs I had earlier). Apparently these
are meant for the cheap Asian copy market (Ritek statement - search Internet
reviews). I now have to save up enough in order to buy those expensive Verbatim
discs (or use DVDShrink).
Personally, I feel that the disc manufacturers should get together with companies
like Nero and manufacturers of burners to solve such problems before dumping it onto
the consumers. This is irresponsible marketing (very common today).
