HP (dc197x) CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive Questions & Answers
I can burn cd's but not dvd's
Hello Rfd832,
What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means
CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write
DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory
so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs)
If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)
You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive
Hope that helps.. :)
Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas
My computer burns dc fine
Hello leslaw176,
Your problem in your burning of DVD will be solve by just using other burning application like Nero DVD burner (which is the most stable and user-friendly software) software and by lowering your burning speed. There's an drop down menu before you burn you DVD which tells you what speed will be using try 16x in DVD. Its better to write normally than writing in full burst.
May my solution may solve your problem.
Thanks for using Fixya...;-)

Why Net-Share? What are you exactly interested in, with specific dish alignment and some needing a larger disk to receive their signals crisp and clear without interferences. Usually there are groups you can join to get lists of signal coordinates to tune to, this also means an adjustable motorized programmable dish mount, eliminating the need to scan with your receiver, it works on a memorized data base something like your TV, but like Samsung witch picks from everything it is able to register as available signals which are available on your dish alignment. Some use multiple dishes with multiple heads to receive 500+ channels. There are some manufactures who also provide multi format, NTSC & PAL on a system with abilities to receive decoded freely locked filtered signals. These are pay premium stations and cinema movie broadcasts in HD digitally enhanced broadcasted for cable providers and Casinos, also 4 & 5 star hotels.
These are undetectable to any of the providers so far, but technology is always changing month to month, you never know when unless you have a detector which registers the pulse they send out in their signal which is receiving on a system unregistered.
So expand your search if your really interest in free reception of over 3000 plus stations, also to receive PAL , the receiver unit converts to NTSC so you can see the signal, otherwise all you’ll get is sound. This technology has been around for years, mainly the European market utilizing this technology due to the massive amount of entertainment available in NTSC. Now today it is not an issue, some foreign see fist run movies before the US market can, but generally it is one giant worldwide simultaneous release.

Cd drive is not opening
Hi,
Uninstall the driver from Device Mgr, then go to registry editor, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the left hand side delete the Upper and Lower filter. Restart the PC and reinstall the driver. You may also create new user account if issue continues.

My cd dvd dis appears in my computer
Have you recently installed a software such as Roxio or Nero? This can often lead to a corrupt engine recognition, especially if you have two or more different burning programs. I would suggest restoring computer back to a date at which it worked.
I have a similar kind of problem...
Hi,
Thanks for coming to FixYa, The problem you have is either a well documented software problem or a failing drive.
Click the below link, then scroll down and click the "Fix It" button. Follow the onscreen instructions, restart when it's done and see if your drive re-appears. If it does, you're done, if it doesn't work then your drive is most likely failed and you should replace it.

Dvd drive
Sounds like you purchased a SATA drive when you need a IDE drive...or vise versa. Check the box. If that's the case, just exchange the drive for the proper one.
