GE JVM1790 1000 Watts Convection / Microwave Oven Questions & Answers
Message keypad shorted what does it mean?
Hi,
This means you have either a stuck key (button) or failed ribbon. THis model number is incomplete as there are 7 different models and that has a lot to do with colors and features. But price wises it appears that runs about 90.00 or so to replace that key pad as it is the console assembly. Send me the rest of the model number and I will send you the correct part number you will need to repair this unit.

My surface light bulb burned out and I replaced it
The only fix for it is to either buy another control board $300+ or if you are any good at wiring you can go the the hardware store get a manual toggle switch and install it under the microwave on the right hand side near the control area. But make sure the switch can handle the heat rising from the stove burners. We have about 120 of the microwaves on our properties and 6 of them have this issue. The relay internal switch becomes corroded and binds together from steam and boiling water. GE is JUNK.
GE model number jvm1790sk 01
That's probably a shorted relay on the control circuit board.

The dial on our GE
turntable problem? it's probably the motor itself. it's easily removed under the bottom panel. you'll need the pricey ge orig. part; as they use a odd 21volt motor. good luck.
I have a GE Microwave
There are wires going from the main board to the surface lamp and turntable. They are thin orange, yellow and blue wires. I think the surface lamp is yellow and the turntable wires are orange. You should first try taking the bottom cover off. There are about 8 screws under neath and the bottom cover hinges on the back edge, just let it hang. You can now see the wires. Those wires short to the case where they go through from the main board to the lamps or turntable motor. You now have to move them away form the case. Sometimes they get pinched to the metal cabinet by the lamp socket area. Look for signs of pinched wiring there at the lamp socket or where they go through. Move them away, tape up the bad area.
How do i install the

My microwave starts however food does not heat up.
Micro wave as the name suggests produces heat when the micro waves aimed at an object causes the water molecules inside the object to vibrate hence producing heat. The gadget responsible is the magnetron. If your magnetron is not receiving ht voltage or receiving but faulty, then your micro wave wont work please take precaution when opening micro wave due to high voltage caps that remain charged sometimes even when it is off.check the high voltage fuse/ diode and capacitor if they are fine and the step up trans former o.k then the only option is to replace the magnetron

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. From what you have
described the issue seems to be with the door switch that has gone bad and
should be replaced as everything else is working fine so don’t think its fuse
or anything else that has gone bad. Please do accept the solution if the issue
is resolved else post a comment for further assistance.
Thanks
Rylee
I have a Ge jvm1790sk and while the microwave is
Unplug unit before entering.
The light bulb is behind the air vent at the center top of the microwave. Remove two screws at the very top front of the microwave and pull the vent cover forward at the top. Sliding left is sometimes necessary to release the bottom tabs of the vent cover. The light fixture will be behind this cover.
Good Luck. Reverse the above process to reassemble.
Microwave not in operation began to make a humming

GE microwave (jvm1740dm1bb) - Control panel inop
That model number is not quite right. I'm going to assume it's JVM1740DMBB01.
(If that's not right, please check the tag inside the oven & reply back)
The membrane keypad is not
available as a separate part, so you would have to order the control
panel frame which comes with a new keypad.
In this case, you simply
move your circuit board into the new frame.
The part number you need is WB07X11040 and you can
find
helpful exploded view diagrams and order this part here for $107.00 (compared to $164.75 from GE!)

Power receptacle ok. All functions not
Sounds like the fuse. I recently replaced it. Remove the grill (look on top of your microwave for two screws) and you'll see the fuse to the right side of the microwave. You can get the fuse at Home Depot.
Glass Tray replacement needed

Microwave interior light
Very easy to replace...at least on my JVM1790. Remove the top vent....the long plastic thing that runs along the top of the MW. Two screws on top of the micro. Behind the charcola filter (if you installed one) is an access area to the bulb. remove one screw and the entire assy comes out. Simply R & R the bulb.
