Tv keeps shuting off

Hello,

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this ic is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off. this is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.Hope this will help in solving the problem

Projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both. Repair kits with instructions are also avail from www.TvRepairKits.com

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Phillips 55" rear projection HD

Got our tv in 2004 and we're having the exact same problem. When the blue convergence started going a couple months ago my husband researched the heck out of it and decided it would cost less to just replace the tv with a newer, nicer model rather than repair it. And now, as of last night, we are having the same power issue where the power button goes on, but won't stay on. It just clicks on and off and no sound or picture. Did you ever get yours fixed, or did you end up replacing?

It seems that the multipoint red is not allowing

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

I accidentally pulled wires out

If you will misplace them - it's not going to damage anything in several minutes after turning on your TV. Mark them like 1, 2 3. Remember position of sockets on the board. You better use piece of paper and start write down combinations. put them in any position (actually you can see how wires can be put in most "natural" position). Start TV, push "menu" button and check image out. If colors way too apart - try another combination. There is not too many of them anyway. Before you start - check id sockets are marked with some colors like green red or blue. Appropriate socket always marked on the board with name "green" etc. After some manipulations you will be able to find combination that brings colors more closely together than others. Another tip - green socket normally between red and blue. Find wires that connected to the middle CRT (green projection tube) and plug it into the middle socket. figuring out red and blue will be just worst case scenario in two attempts.
Regards.

Model 55PP935217 multiple convergence mode,

I understand your frustrations, and if you did the work yourself you can feel really bad. In this case if you really want to save this TV, I would suggest you visit Union Electronics. And purchase a reworked replacement board. In many cases this is the best route to go and the price is reasonable. Call them at 1 800 648 6657. I have had very good luck with this company! And these boards are guaranteed, ask for the lenghth allowed. Have your TV model # and tell them you are looking for the convergence board. Thanks for asking!
