The pad on my Dell Inspiron 1100 is too sensitive. Sometimes i touch it with the pad of my palm and the curser jumps around. How do i change the sensitivity. This just started recently...and i have had this computer for a couple of years. Thank you
Hi, click on start and control panel. go to mouse properties. Try to look for a tab that says either touch or touchpad. you can change the sensitivity settings there. however if this doesnt work, this could only mean that this is a physical problem with the toucpad. try to apply pressure on the outer side of the touchpad. if it moves, you're gonna need a replacement palmrest.

I recently bought an Inspiron 1525. Didn't much like the touchpad, so I got a Dell 2-button mouse (with wheel). The mouse didn't work too well until I disabled the touchpad (went to control panel, mouse, disable touchpad, checked box to have touchpad disabled whenever mouse plugged in). Then it worked great, until the computer figured out what I had done. Next time I turned it on, the touchpad was re-enabled even when mouse was plugged in. When I went back to check the box again, I found that the "disable" choice for the touchpad was now gray, couldn't be clicked. Not to be outsmarted by the evil machine, I found I could access the disable function through the touchpad icon on the lower right of the screen, so I checked the box again. But the computer outsmarted me! Next time I turned it on, the touchpad was enabled, and the icon had disappeared! Help! Can this machine be tamed?
Same thing here, I can not find out how to diable the touch paid. I spent an hour chatting on-line with Dell Tech support and they did nothing to help!! I am starting to think it can not be done on this machine. Please someone tell use how to do this?

Hello,
Touchpad itself and the driver are fine as far as I know. But the left touchpad key appears to be broken (no spring action; key sticks down). I've only had the computer for 2 years, though. Is it normal for a touchpad key to ware out so quickly?
How can I deal with this problem? Can the keys be cleaned or replaced, or will I have to put an entirely new tochpad assembly in the computer? How much does it cost?
Jesse
OK, it's not THAT difficult to replace the mouse button. I didn't have the ambition to follow Frumper's suggestion of replacing the little rubber dome with a spring, but there are a number of these available on ebay for under $30. If you're lucky, you'll find the whole top plate with the touchpad and mouse buttons - that saves a little time. But the disassembly/reassembly isn't too bad - there's a pdf of the disassembly process out on the web somewhere; if a google doesn't find it I can send it along. Basically, there are a LOT of little steps, and of course, everything is tiny and fragile. But what it entails is removing all the screws from the bottom of the machine - except for the two under the battery, they're identical. Don't forget the ones under the modem and CPU covers. Remove the 4 screws holding down the heatsink to the cpu. Pop out the hard drive. On the top side, pry off the plate with the power button, GENTLY remove the LCD plug and the 2 backlight connections. Then you can remove the 4 screws that hold the LCD assembly in place - put it somewhere safe! The keyboard will pop right up - be careful with the keyboard connection, the connector hinges, whereas most of the others have a locking key. With the keyboard out of the way, there are a final 4 screws holding the palmrest in place. When they're removed, disconnect the ribbon wires and just pry gently around the edge - starting at the back - and the whole palmrest will come off. If you've got a new palmrest assembly, you're ready to reassemble. If you've just got the mouse buttons, you'll have to remove the (4?) screws holding the front subframe to the palmrest, and a couple more ribbon connectors. Be VERY gentle with all the ribbon wires, and it goes back together very simply. I've done this a few times now; the first one took about 2 hours as I tried real hard not to break anything. Now they go in well under an hour. Like Frumpy said, not for the faint of heart, but not exactly rocket science either. Good luck!

Dell Inspiron 1525 keyboard stop working - how can i fix it?
Hi,
Try in safe mode:
Switch on the laptop and start tapping 'F8' key multiple times (especially when you get the dell logo.Locate safe mode and hit enter (by using the down/up error key).Open a notepad and check all the keybaord keys one by one and confirm if it works.
Test keyboard:
Switch off the laptop (if it is already switched on). Press "Fn" and power key together, this will launch a test (psa), wait for a message "where the color bars displayed",press 'Y' to continue the test. follow onscreen instructions till you rach a window with four options,(express test, symptop test, custom tes,,,,,), click on custom test and select keyboard, click on run test.....and confirm if keybaord works while running the test.
Regards,
Musheer.

I have a Toshiba Laptop, it was working perfectly till few hours ago, when teh mouse stopped working right, I now can move the pointer anywhere I want using teh touchpad, but, I can no longer double click teh touchpad to enter, I looked for possible buttons that might hold teh answer, I went to the mouse setting in control pannel, no success.
Thanks for reading
Here is what I did to get the touchpad to start working again. My laptop is Gateway and a couple years old, running Windows Vista.
1. Start>Control Panel
2. Double-click on Mouse icon (or button, depending on how you're systems set up).
3. When a the Mouse Properties window pops up, choose the Device Settings tab.
4. Click on the Settings... button.
5. A new window pops up and on the right side there is a list of options - choose Tapping.
6. Once clicked, there is a check box that allows you to Enable Tapping.
7. Click OK to close out your windows and the tapping option should be enabled on your touchpad.
Hopefully this helps.

it use to happen alot so i just wiggles the charger and it worked not it dosnt seem to work at all, is there any simple soloutions as most of the soloutions i have reserched says to buy a new battery or charger which is expensive for me.
I had exactly the same problem. I got onto Dell support because my Inspiron 1525 was still in warranty and they told me to update the Bios which I did. That was nearly 2 months ago and I haven't had the problem since and it was a daily occurance.

Okay, here goes...bear with me. I've had my Dell laptop for about 18 months. No problems with the touchpad....until about 3 days ago. The arrow doesn't seem to "go" where i want it to! It has a "jerky" feel and not "smooth" movement like it used it. I have tried adjusting the touchpad settings but nothing works.
If this helps, the problem started RIGHT AFTER I had been watching "Dexter" downloads from Amazon.com. I watched them on the tv through my computer. Doesn't sound like that would hurt anything but that's when the problem started.
In a nutshell, all of a sudden, the arrow on my screen doesn't respond in a smooth motion...it seems to be "jerky" and not go where I want it to go. Also, the arrow will sometimes go in the OPPOSITE direction or won't move AT ALL!
HELP!
Try touching the case of the A/C adapter to a metal part on the computer casing.
If the condition improves, you have a grounding issue with the power adapter.

my laptop touchpad is not working dell inspiron n5010
you will have to reinstall the drivers and the sofware in your Dell. I think since the touch pad is not working if you use the cursor keys and proceed to the control panel and try to restore the laptop, then if this will reset to an earlier date, then it will solve the issue.
try this out and check to reinstall drivers. hope this helps. Good day
