The Specs say that Ram is expandable to 2GB but

As it hasn't got dual core to utilise the full 4Gb or a bios to accept it, there is not a lot of point in going further than 2Gb.
Hope that answers your question.

I had to reinstall xp

Get the Gateway particular drivers for your model from www.gateway.com/support. You will have to use 'sneaker-net' to transort the data from your source computer to your notebook.

No sound after trying to install external speakers

ok once you get to the sound icon in your control panel click and go into and you should see one thats says speakers and one that says digital output if it doesn't have a green check over the speakers then highlight it and set it as defult, or if there is nothing under the playback tab, then you will have to download the sound drivers again for windows do an ms update, or look up your sound device and look for the drivers for it over the net or use the program drivermax, but do an update from microsoft is the best bet and then go get ccleaner program from download.com run it and clean things up do a defrag as well and go from there ok if need more help call me at 952-451-0518 ask for Travis A. any time 24/7 the fixist good luck and have a nice day

I am having a heck

Hello,

You will need to re-install the window xp home edition and try again, Some times the problem could be from the Xp cd, it might have skipped files.

So i suggest you re-install your window xp and try to install your audio after the installation of the window xp.

Please ensure the window xp install properly before you try to install your audio driver.

Take care.

I have a password on my hardrive how do i remove

A bios password or operating system password for XP and Vista? I will tell you for both. For the BIOS you can usually just remove the CMOS battery for overnight and it will reset. If you have XP or Vista and you need the password to login then you will need to either crack the password or remove it using a boot utility. I suggest downloading ophrack from www.ophcrack.org and burning it to an image. Then on boot select the cd drive and follow the on screen directions. If its an easy password and your luck it should take an hour or so.

Keeps freezing

Sounds like motherboard problems, but not 100% pointing to that. If you have the knowledge to do so - run a linux boot cd (can be found on a lot of PC magazine DVDs) and see if it crashes with that as well.

Other things to check are the heat your laptop is outputting, check for any burning smells from where the airflow comes out of the laptop, check that your power cable for the laptop is not faulty.

This is a pretty indefined problem as there are many factors that could cause this. Hope I helped.

I have a Gateway LP2417 monitor and there's No sound.Hoe do I fix it,so I can hear the video that is playing?

This monitor may not have built-in speakers. It may have supported Gateway's monitor mounted sound bar. That sound bar connected to the 3.5 mm audio out on a computer and a DIN port on the monitor. The simplest solution is to connect your source to appropriate speakers. Depending on your audio setup, you could connect the video source to a receiver with HDMI IN and HDMI Out (ARC), computer speakers or an audio extractor. (If you are using an HDMI cable between the Gateway LP2417 and a computer, you may need to reset the audio output to use basic computer speakers (3.5mm jack).) VGA and DVI connections don't support audio so I assume you are using the HDMI port. I hope this helps. Cindy Wells

Do i need a driver for old gateway gmax2000 speakers connected to an old acer-based home built pc my nephew gave me?

No you don't need a driver. These are very plain powered speakers that come with a mains adapter and a lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack at both ends. Plug one in the speaker and the other into the headphone jack on the front or the speaker socket on the back which will either be a socket on the motherboard, or if your son put a sound card in the computer, it will be in a sound card. If it doesn't play straight away, go into Settings - Audio and make sure the sound card or the On-Board Audio is enabled. How to make touch screen on gateway computer upside down and how to put it back?

f you want to use your touch screen on your gateway computer in an upside down orientation, there are a few things you need to do. First, you need to change the orientation of the screen in the control panel. To do this, go to the control panel and select "Display." Next, click on the "Settings" tab and then click on the "Orientation" drop-down menu. Select "Landscape (flipped)" from the menu and then click on the "Apply" button. Now that the orientation of the screen has been changed, you need to adjust the position of the touchscreen so that it is in the correct position. To do this, go to the control panel and select "Hardware and Sound." Next, select "Pen and Touch" and then click on the "Calibrate" button. Follow the on-screen instructions to calibrate the touchscreen. Once you have finished, the touchscreen should be working correctly in the upside down orientation. I hope this helps!

I have a Gateway Laptop that on startup only goes to the configuration screen. It won't boot Windows at all

They deleted the Operating System by deleting their own stuff Docs, images, Saved Links etc. and also everything in Windows System probably in spite. You need to reload the operating system (Win 11) from fresh. Charge them from their final pay check, or ask IT to do it.

Gateway / Packard Bell EASYNOTE MS2291 Laptop will not start.

Question edited for a lot more clarity, FULL 'make, model (what it is)'. Question moved from 'Power Computers'. Connect a computer monitor to the port on the back. When I Google the model number the first thing that shows is Replacement LCD Screens for it which leads me to believe there is an issue with them. There is three parts to the display, the video card section, the exciter module and the screen itself. It needs correct diagnosis, or buy a new one now you have reset it clean, if that is what you mean by 'hard restart'? You might mean 'hard boot', power off and back on without proper shutdown. That is bad for the OS. https://www.google.com/search?q=Model+MS2291 Keyboard shortcuts for shutdown
