Any way you can find out this unit has been upgraded before?
If unit already been upgraded to new software you dont need to spend lot of $$.
I think your problem will be either y-su or z-sus board.

It is not necessasry to change the kit all time.
Check whether this unit has been upgraded before or not.If this unit upgraded before you dont need to change Kit.
May be problem with Y-sus or Z-sus boards.

Heard lots of problem with similar case for this tv,you need to buy upgrade kit from the haier itself, there also available at Sears you will get instruction sheet will contain all information all you need is screw driver to replace the parts Control Board TV-5210-39, Y-SUS TV-5210-35, Z-SUSj TV-5210-37, New EPROM Chip 2006 version TV-2455-03, Upgrade Label TV-4050-08 and Haier Service Bulletin SB-TV-0003 containing the instructions to replace the boards yourself.

How old is the TV? You can contact the manufacturer and find out if you are still under warranty. They can tell you what you can do if you are or are not under warranty and where you can send/take the unit for repair - if necessary. Your manufacturer's number is 1-877-337-3639. If you want to e-mail them, the web-address is: http://contact.haier.com/engdefault.asp (this will take you directly to the contact page of the website). They claim they will respond to e-mails within 2 days immediately. You can also give this information to ***********. I don't know what could be causing the problem you both are having, but there is a good possibility that the manufacturer will take care of this under warranty (fingers crossed). Had the same problem. Purchased Haier 42" model 42EP24S from Sears and it broke in 1 1/2 years. Couldn't find anyone to fix it so I ordered part Service Kit: TV-3940-01 from www.searspartsdirect.com the cost was $150.00. If your warranty is up and you're okay with doing your own work. :-)

Replaced 3 boards (instruction included) and my tv is back in action.

Harish.......If you've lost both audio and video you'll probably need the upgrade kit. If it were just video you could get by for sometime with replacing the slow blow fuse on the s-zus board. Check your eprom chip on the digiatal board to see if it appears burnt. If so it may have fried. If you'd like the service manual I'll need your email address

My experience with a Haier Plasma 42EP24S is that they have weak software chip that goes bad and can cause a number of symptoms from picture with no sound, will not recognize video inputs, or my current problem tv turns on and off irratically.  This is the second time i have replace this chip, which is the socketed chip on the vga/component/dvi input circuit card.  Last time i had this problem i ended up fixing it myself because sears took over 3 weeks and still could not figure out the problem.  I am working on obtaining this chip, probally get about a dozen so if anyone thinks this may fix there problem as well i my have some for sale.  [email protected] of Malobicky Digital Systems.

right it may be that your universal remote is not compatible with your tv.

The Haier fix kit is 3 boards to replace the 3 boards in your plasma. So the only way to get it done is to order from Haier/Sears. Sears knows this! Make them come to your home, it is a warranty issue.

Is the tv black screen with sound? That's usually the problem. The Sears service rep will come out, order the upgrade kit, the kit is mailed to your home, then you notify Sears and they return and install the 3 boards. You can do this yourself when the boards arrive and skip Sears, but only if your comfortable removing the back of the plasma (about 25 screws) and replacing circuit boards.

Sears knows of this problem - the key is to convince them to come out and replace the three circuit boards for free - argue that they should have recalled or fix the MONITORS proactively and that this isn't the service level that Sears is known for. Mine was out of warranty, but they still came out and ordered the boards. Also, make sure when you buy a new Plasma, that you buy a Television, not a Monitor to avoid the frustations about tuners.

You can order the parts and plug them in yourself. I did this, since it takes weeks to get the Sears guy to come back and do it. It was simple, but isn't recommended unless you can't wait to have your tv back. Sears sends parts by mail directly to your home...

This is the same problem many of us have had with this tv purchased at Sears. Sears knows about the problem, it requires that 3 circuit boards be removed and replaced. Sears will come out and order the parts then return to fix the tv. You may be able to get them to do this for free through serious complaining about why this wasn't recalled, why Sears didnt come out and fix it already, etc. Usually they will give in, but it may depend on how long ago you purchased this "not so high quality" plasma. Hope this helps.
