Repair kit TV-3940-01 will solve the problem. Unfortunately is is very difficult to find.

Rich-Tech has a kit (6871VSNB03E) that replaces the three boards but it does not include the EEPROM. I do not know how long the repair will last if the EEPROM is not replaced as part of the repair.

If this is the 42EP24S TV the repair is quite easy - remove the back cover and replace 3 boards and an EEPROM, replace the cover and then program the set via the remote control.

If you can get the repair kit (TV-3940-01) from SEARS, get it.

You can get a kit (6871VSNB03E) from Rich-Tech for $198 plus shipping. It does not have the EEPROM though.

If your TV is the 42EP24S model, get the TV-3940-01 repair kit if you can. If you cannot get that kit, get the 6871VSNB03E kit. Rich-Tech has it for $198. Unfortunately Rich-Tech's kit does not include the EEPROM so how long the repair will last is unknown.

First of all you have to find out whether this unit has been upgraded with a new software or not?
If this unit is upgraded with new software either you have problem in Y-sus board or Z-sus board.

If this unit is having problem for the first time I would recommend to Change the Service Kit
Part number is TV-3940-01.
This kit contains E-prom,Y-sus board, Z-sus board and Control board you have to change these 3 boards together with E-prom IC.

before you order any kit check it this unit has been upgraded before? if this unit upgraded before you dont need to change kit again.
I would say either y-sus or z-sus could be the problem..

I did a search on the web and found a couple but none in the US

I would say you dont need to repalce Servcie kit.kit is only for 42EP24S units.
examine your unit What is the problem?Is the blue indicator on?If indicator on you will have audio.
In this case I would check first Y-sus board or Z-sus board.
