Not only does Wi-Fi have to be on, but it has to be connected to a wireless access point (sometimes called a wireless router), and the wireless access point has to be properly connected to the internet. If the wireless access point/router has empty ports on it, plug your computer into one of those ports, and see if you can connect to ther internet then. If you can, the problem is somewhere between the wireless access point/router and the computer. Could be the transmitter part of the wireless router, could be the wireless network adapter on your computer, or could be the driver that runs the wireless adapter on the computer. If you cannot access the internet when you plug into the wireless ap/router, then you need to go one step "upstream." This would likely be the cable modem or DSL modem. Plug directly into that with your computer, and reboot both the modem and the computer (just unplug the power from the modem and then plug it back in to reboot the modem). If you can connect to the internet then, the problem is the wireless router/ap. If you cannot connect to the internet then, contact your ISP.
Your computer works fine. Its just a little plastic tab that has broken off of the power button. Bad design! The power button doesn't sit right about the power switch. The broken tab makes the switch. The button is directly about the LED light. You have to remove the power button panel (Your user manual will instruct you on that) and then you can rig something where the plast tab was or just remove the circuit board from the panel and just power it on with your finger on the circuit board. No risk of shock. Well it hasn't gotten me yet :o) There's only two screws that you have to remove from the back of the computer to remove the panel and keep in mind that the top hinge covers are part of the power button panel so you have to gently loosen those with a little screw driver as well.
Hi
You need to go to another computer and download and install Microsoft Safety Scanner on a portable hard drive, thumb drive or pen drive, then you will start your computer in the safe mode and then plug in and download, install and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Or you can....
Start your computer in the "Safe Mode", you do this by tapping F8 while the computer is starting up.
Once you are in the safe mode then go to the webpage below and download and run the microsoft safety scanner, this may take several hours to complete the scan and fix.
If the virus is not removed then you can chat with an expert (for free) and he will (with your permission) take over the computer and remove the virus for you.

It sounds like it is hanging on boot up,
I don't know about your model but a lot of notebooks have a restore partition that you can access on some by pressing control and F9, this is not the same on all machines, if you google the model of your machine and state "hoe to reset" someone will have posted an answer. If you can get to the system restore you will probably lose any files you have on it but it should sort out your boot up. There are a lot of other ways to sort out your machine but not knowing how well up you are it is probably the easiest for you to try. Other than that I think it will be a reimage disc that you might have to purchase, try (http://www.gennersales.us/ReimageXP/Gateway7330gz.htm). I personally would do it the hard way and start from scratch with a complete re-install (first finding all the drivers) or even taking the HDD out and connecting it to another machine to get the information off the drive. There are also repair utilities about like "BART" or "Hirens" or "spotmau" that might sort it out, but you will need a DVD drive to use them. I hope that helps a little.
MAy be You have deleted the Operating system and also the Operatiing system files.
ALong with You may also have deleted the Files needed for System restore . accidently .
Please try to load the OS with teh cd which you may have received along with .
You need to replace the motherboard. This may not be a cost effective solution. It may be better to put your money towards a new laptop which will be faster and most likely slightly more than the cost of repairing the Gateway. You can remove the hard disk from the Gateway and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and then use it as an external USB hard drive for backups and data transfer.
There are two ways to approach forcing the Bios/CMOS to be reset to its
default values: Option #1: Mechanically, by removing all power to the
Bios/CMOS thereby forcing it to reset itself to its stored defaults,
which include no password or the default password employed by the Bios
manufacturer, and Option #2: Using a program to either locate and
identify the password and reveal it to you or erasing the password
entirely. These are referred to as password by-pass utilities or cracks.
Let's look at Option #1
By either resetting a jumper on the motherboard itself (referred to as a
"clear CMOS" jumper), or by physically remove the power from the computer
(disconnecting the power plug) and then removing a battery (used to
maintain power to the PROM chip that contains the Bios/CMOS information)
from the motherboard.
If the "Clear CMOS" jumpers are not present or not available:
Shut down the computer and disconnect the power plug. Locate, if possible, the instruction booklet for your motherboard. Now
identify where the battery is located on the motherboard. It will be
approximately 1/2 inch in diameter.Leave the battery our of the computer
for about 20 to 30 minutes and then return it to its socket. Now plug
the power cord back in and restart the computer.
It is sometimes difficult to burn on latop DVD drives as they don't have a lot of life-span, but, you could try a new DVD as the media itself can be the problem, you could get a couple of bad discs in a row.
If you can try a replacement drive or slowing down the burn speed.
no if you bought it on ebay more likely than not the correct keyboard drivers are not installed are the previous user wipped it simply search for the correct driver download it open control panel> device manager> find keyboard driver and update it to the correct one
Here is a video on how to open the monitor on a Gateway notebook, although if the switch isn't working anymore I assume there is a part of it broken inside and you might need a replacement.
go to the gateway 7330 page of the gateway official website. download the vista drivers for the system. when you want to install, right click and select "install with troubleshooting". then follow the instruction from there.
I grabbed this from another site. It worked fantastic, give it a try and it might fix your problem, I know it helped me tones after spending nearly 2 days playing with a similar sounding problem as yours.
Gateway Laptop Freezes during System Restore Had the same problem, turns out it's a well known issue to Gateway and Microsoft it's due to "SpeedStep" and it must be disabled. Here's the chat log with Gateway tech support:
do these steps to disable SpeedStep in the BIOS Setup Utility and then run System Restore again on your computer. 1. Turn on the computer and begin pressing the F2 key in one-second intervals. If you perform this step correctly, you see the BIOS Setup Utility menu. If Windows loads normally, repeat this step.
2. In the BIOS Setup Utility, press the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Advanced menu.
3. On the Advanced menu, change the Intel SpeedStep setting from Enabled to Disabled.
4. Press the RIGHT ARROW key to select the Exit menu.
5. On the Exit menu, select Save Changes and Exit
6. Restart the computer and run System Restore.
7. After completing the restore, download and install the Critical Update for Windows XP (KB885626) package from the Microsoft Web site.
8. Once the KB885626 package is installed, re-enable Intel SpeedStep in the BIOS Setup Utility.
Myself...I am not going to turn SpeedStep back on it caused me enough time and hassle that I don't want to take a chance that it will screw something else up. Hope that helps anybody that finds this issue too. I got here by Googling but didn't find a fix anywhere on the net until I chatted w/ Gateway. And if the Laptop was not under warranty, they wouldn't have talked to me. Sad that it's a well know issues and one cannot even search their site for "a known issue" Good Luck! Mike
