I have never heard of a warm-up problem on a digital television. Unlike the old CRT TVs and monitors, digital panels don't have to warm up. I would go with the TV repair persons assessment that you've got a bad panel.

You are better off replacing the whole unit. Even if you can find the parts from sony you need to have a technician replace it for you so you are looking at about the cost of a new TV just to replace the screen. I would suggest sending it back to the manufacturer with a complaint. They will probably send you a coupon so you can get another TV free. It worked when I did that.
