40 blinks is not a error code---likely it is just here the set trying to come on.Someone is going to have to either get a error code (blinking red?) in a specific sequence or open set and first test voltages into and out of the power supply board.It is that simple--have to begin at the beginning----either a voltage is coming up and going to zero at turn on or something down the road is pulling something down.Not likely a do it yourself repair.

you are describing a optical light engine that is damaged inside----may want to call Sony as they extended due to some lawsuits the repair or replacement depending on model number and they did have on their site for customers a list of sets being recalled for certain issues.The light engine is not cheap---last time I looked over 900 exchange.Sd Tech

Look to the owner manual to see if the set has an error buffer that detects and stores errors--if it does you should be able to see what error has been detected---Sony if called might be able to tell you how to access it.

You shut it off but it seems to still be on? Look from rear when set is on to see if you can see any light from the lamp at all--when set is turned off does the lamp actually go off?If you have not already tried it unplug the set to allow it to try to reset.This kind of problem can present danger if most of the set is actually still on--it can overheat and or damage good parts.In the years past (do not think it is the case here but is possible) there was a mechanical relay (you hear it click when set turned on or off) that could stick closed.Just some thoughts but this needs to be looked at by a shop if above suggestions do not help.

when it goes out look on the front for blinking red light in some sequence--that is a error code which may point to area where problem is.

Please let us know if any of the leds on the front come on and blink.This model if the lamp is about to fail will come one with a very dim screen and then shut off.

It is customer replaceable and:GOOGLE THE MODEL NUMBER WITH REPLACE LAMP AFTER IT.You Tube may have video instructions based on the exact model number.

the common problem on that symptoms is leak/bulged capacitors on the power supply board..try to replace it to get back the excellent quality of your TV..regards.chester

HelloJust unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket. Replug it after 2 minutes or so, and see whether it helps you. This must reset all the settings to your set, and must switch On. If not the set need service. There is some unpredictable fault to its main board A through check should be done. In most cases, ther is no repair to the main board,a s it is assembled with sophistcated automated machines. 90% of the components on it will be of micro sizes, and cannot be replaced by ordinary hand soldering techniques.

Contact Sony. There is a bug in the bootup software that causes the resets. Sony will reload the software for free.

How old is the set? The lamp maybe going bad already...IF not that, its the ballast power supply...GURU JAY

The processor is locked up and if you unpulg the set from the wall for 40Min, it will reset back to normal.

It is a lamp door cover error (KDF-E50A10). Inspect it and ensure that it is properly seat-in. If the symptoms still persist, open the lamp door cover and fix the safety switch by tape and turn on the unit. If the unit fires up, then the lamp door cover does not engage to this switch properly.Mjsazon

Check the lamp door cover. It will engage to safety switch when properly seat-in. When this switch is open your unit will not power up like what you've encountered right now. Go back to lamp assembly and check this part, re-install the lamp door cover and ensure that it will engaged to the switch.

Okay AKB (automatic kine bias some thing is wrong with the Video.check video output Q705 732 761 and other component on the C board,also check Q218.219.220,on the A board.in addition.the unit could be in IK blanking.try turning up screen slightly.good luck.
