Screen went dark (almost completely)

check your power cord and make sure it's plugged in all the way, and if it is, check your brightness setting.

Usually it's the Fn key + an arrow key. Make sure the brightness is up all the way

DELL INSPIRON M5030 MAKING NOISE DO NOT POWER ON WHAT SHOULD I DO

The fan on the processor is bad/dirty/sticking and heat is causing it not to start for protection of the system. Fix, replace, or clean the airways and fan and that may allow it to start. Ventilation is ultimately important to stay in good working order. Also, if there is a disk in the cd/dvd unit, it would try to boot from that first before using the hard drive. The noise could be that disk being spun and trying to read, which if finding no startup files would stop it from starting as well. Removal of that disk may allow it to start.

It wont come on with power button

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods

Dell Inspiron 6000 powers up, caps lock flashes 9 times, then laptop shut down. Why???

Unplug power cord from laptop, remove battery from laptop. Open memory access panel on the bottom of the laptop. Remove memory module(s) (SO-DIMM). Plug power cord back into laptop. Turn laptop on (with the memory removed), the caps lock and scroll lock LEDs light, then the laptop shuts itself off. Unplug power cord from the laptop. Reinstall the memory modules. Dell inspiron 6000 error mesage permament battery failure detected. Replaced the battery and still get the message. Computer won't boot up

Tons of people have this problem with dell computers sadly, the motherboard is refusing it's new part. The reason they do this is so you send in the computer to their tech dept so they can make more money pretty much :p Remember, most new tech is meant to break like this, and usually leaves the tech dept in beta. The only real fix is to replace the motherboard, or buy a new laptop. Or you're having really bad luck and the second battery you bought is a dud too.

Unit will not power up

When you connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED light up? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's power socket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Dell inspirion 6000 is showing "loading PBR2.....done. NTLDR IS MISSING.HOW TO FIX

Use the Restoration Disk. When asked choose Repair.(Non-Destructive Installation)You are missing basic Windows files. Boot loader files. Also you may have to prepare to replace the harddrive. May have bad Sectors on it.Means I would copy off all personal information, after getting that laptop going again, or you may lose it.Regards,joecoolvettehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTLDRhttp://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk.htmhttp://computer.howstuffworks.com/hard-disk7.htm
