Hello, I want to upgrade my laptops video card so I can pplay World of Warcraft on it. I was wondering If people can show me decent video cards that are compatible with the Dell inspiron 1300. Thanks in advance,
Sorry you cannot upgrade the graphics on your laptop according to the articles i looked up.
You should call DELL. I think the display card is part of the mother board on your computer. In this case, you cannot change it. In some models you can add some memory to the display card, but this may not make the card faster. Higher amounts of memory allows for more resolution and colours.

AFTER RUNNING A CHKDSK /F /R I TRIED TO GET BACK INTO MY LAPTOP. THE COMPUTER BOOTS UP & I SEE THE WINDOWS XP SCREEN. THEN I GET A BLUE SCREEN WITH THE MESSAGE: THE APPLICATION OR DLL\??\C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32
WINSRV.DLL IS NOT A VALID WINDOWS IMAGE. PLEASE CHECK THIS AGAINST YOUR INSTALLATION DISKETTE.
I TRY REBOOTING THROUGH SAFEMODE AND I GET THE SAME MESSAGE.
IS THERE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT ME LOSING ALL OF MY FILES AND DATA?
Try to look for your windows xp cd.
Turn the computer off. Restart it and start tapping f12 right after.
Insert the cd. Choose the option that says CD/CDRW/DVDRW from the screen and press enter. Watch out for a prompt that will say 'Press any key to boot from cd'. press any key as soon as you get this. If you miss it, you'll get the error again. You should get the blue windows setup screen if you caught it at the right time.
Wait until you get the 'welcome to setup' screen.
Press R.
Follow any other instructions that you may get until it gives you the C:\> prompt.
Type in bootcfg /rebuild.
Below is a listing of the common steps you are likely going to encounter.
* Prompt for the identified versions of Windows installed. When you receive this prompt press Y if the bootcfg command properly identified each of the Windows operating systems installed on the computer. It is important to realize this command will only detect Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT installations.
* Prompt to enter the load identifier. This is the name of the operating system for the boot.ini. For example, Microsoft Windows XP Home users would enter "Microsoft Windows XP Home edition". If you have Windowx XP pro edition, enter 'Microsoft Windows XP Professional'
* Prompt to Enter OS load options. When this prompt is received type /fastdetect to automatically detect the available options.
Then type 'exit'. and let the computer reboot. If you get two options for microsoft windows. Choose the one that says what you entered when you were in the recovery console.
If you are able to boot correctly after those steps, go to start>click run. Then type msconfig. Click ok. Click the boot.ini tab. Click 'check all boot paths'. Click ok or yes. click close and restart if prompted. You shouldn't get the prompt for two microsoft windows anymore.

I changed my region code the other day to watch a foreign film, but was aware that i had another change left so would be able to change it back. But now I insert the region 2 disk (my home region), and WMPlayer (or the Dell Cineplayer) won't play it. It says:
1.'Your system is set to region 1. To play this DVD , set your system to region 2, 4 or 5'. - I click OK and change the region to Region 2 (UK)
2. The computer warns me that 'This is your last chance to change the region setting on your DVD. Are you sure you want to proceed?' - I click yes.
3. Then an error message pops up saying 'Unable to update region setting. Please make sure the drive contains a region 2 media and you have administration privilege'. I click OK as there is no other option.
--The problem is that I changed it before and no one else has an account on my computer so I must have administration privilege . Apparently I also have 1 change left, and I am inserting a region 2 disk. So why won't it let me change back to my real region? And how could I fix it?
Thanks
you can flash the drive with region free firmware (best option if you know what youre doing)
you can reinstall os giving you extra tries.
or you can use a program called any dvd(free)which enable you to watch any region (safe)
flash is best if youre not sure or cant find software let me know and give your dvd details(firmware)
eg freecom dvdrw 523252

My Dell inspiron 1300 has just gone almost blank. I can still see the screen but only VERY faintly. At a guess I would say the backlight has gone but I don't know if it has one??? Anyone else had this problem?
All laptops have a backlight and an inverter to power it, and the problem you have is very common. Usually replacing the inverter board in the display fixes the trouble. There are a number of vendors online offering replacement parts. Here is one that just popped up after a Google search. You can also find videos on youtube showing the procedure for opening up the display to install the new part. It's a simple process that most people can handle with a little patience and some small tools.
It's also possible the light itself has gone bad, but the inverter failure is more common. The backlight on some displays is not replaceable separately. So try the less expensive inverter replacement first.

plug in not charging
There are several factors why this situation happens. It could be
improper use of the power adapter or because the battery is not being
cared correctly. On the other hand, exercising the performance of
battery sometimes by draining it completely before charging it again is
a good method of prolonging the battery life. If you noticed that the
battery is not charging, always check first the power outlet if it is
live or not before doing serious investigation. If the wall socket is not the cause of laptop battery charging failure, the following troubleshooting tips might help you.
1.
Check if the AC adapter is bad or not. Detach the battery from the
laptop and turn on the computer with the power plug connected. If the
laptop does not turn on, try using another power adapter to verify if
the first one is defective. If the second trial does not work as well,
the problem might be the power circuit of the motherboard. Look for a
certified computer technician to help you solve the issue.
2. If
the computer does turn on, the power adapter is in good condition and
not the cause the problem. In this case, try placing another battery
that meets the technical specifications of the laptop for proper
testing. If the second battery works well, it can be concluded that the
first one is defective.
3. Determine if the problem is not caused
by a software related issue. If the notebook battery status is not
being displayed correctly though software, it can be considered that
the software is causing the problem and not really the battery.
4.
Power reset the unit by unplugging it and removing the battery. After
doing that, hold the power button down for a minute. Then, attach the
battery and power adapter, and start the laptop again. This method is
being done to ensure that the motherboard is not holding power anymore
when the battery went down causing a "hiccup" in the system. This may
solve the charging failure of the battery.
5. If the battery
stops charging every time the charge indicator reaches 96-98%, the
laptop may need to be recalibrated for a new battery. For proper
notebook recalibration, the Windows power management should be
configured to prevent the system from going into sleep mode or
hibernation when the battery reaches the low level. For Windows XP
users, navigate to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance >
Power Options. Set "Power Schemes" to "Always On". Under "Alarms",
uncheck "Low battery alarm" and "Critical battery alarm". Under
"Hibernate", uncheck "Enable hibernation", and then click on Apply.
Doing this procedure, the laptop battery can now be drained fully until
the computer system shuts off. Then, put the adapter back into the
power jack and let it charge completely. Sometimes the cycle must be
repeated 2-3 times before it actually reaches the 100% full charge. The
charging process should last at least around 14 hours.
