The USB port on many high - end radar detector models is for sending one of or the combination of: firmware updates and databases that hold red light camera & known speed trap locations. The database type uploads are usually reserved for those devices that have internal GPS devices. Some others may allow changing settings that may not be readily accessible from the detector's user control panel.Some USB ports are for possible later use - meaning that the use of the USB port has not yet been utilized. You should contact your detector manufacturer's web site (or customer service representative) to determine what services (if any) are available for the detector via the USB port. The radar detector works by mixing a signal generate locally by a special UHF diode with the signal generated by the police detector. This mixing is done in a very special mixing diode that, because it has to be very sensitive, it's very fragile. The result of the mixing is a difference signal that is converted by the unit in audio signal - if the level of that signal goes above a set level the warning is triggered.
If for whatever reason the mixing diode gets damaged even in the slightest way the signal it should generate gets off balance and it raises in level way more than normal - the diode practically now makes its own signal that gets interpreted by the unit as a detection. This is what has happened in your unit - it wasn't disabled by anyone, the mixing diode got damaged by something in your car: even turning the AC at the wrong moment could have done it.
Once the damage has been done it's permanent - your detector is dead and it will never work again. Junk it and buy a new one.

check your cord for cracks, other than that you might not be getting a good connection where it plugs into your cigarette lighter. Make sure you have a strong spring inside also
