You can buy another in $70 from HERE or $80 from Amazon.com so it has no worth to get it repaired, however if you wish to repair it, please contact Cobra Support as they have spare parts for this product.

It is probably a spark plug wire, an unshielded ignition module or the like. when L goes off, it's most definitely a cop. L basically means "You're already screwed, hurry up and pull the radar detector off your window to lessen the blow! x band is used for automatic doors or police helicopters and planes

k band is the older version of ka, but will also go off on automatic doors

ka is mainly what cops use

ku is a brand new one unless you live in a big city you won't get this one

L is laser if this goes off and your speeding just pull over they will catch up

sometimes numbers will correspond with the letters. the higher the number the higher the strength or signal from whatever is hitting you. This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Radar detection is not an absolute...there are several factors to consider:

-Most radar guns have an adjustable "gain"...which means that if an officer is only checking speeds to vehicles close by, he or she has the option of turning down the power. This means that your detector may not pick up the radar until you are right on top of it, if at all.

-Many police agencies are using laser or LIDAR technology for speed detection. Even if your detector is able to detect laser, the detector will not "see" it unless the police officer aims directly at your detector. The laser beam is very precise, and is only the size of a penny on the target vehicle when the officer is 1000+ yards away. Since the officer is usually targeting your license plate (it is the most reflective, and therefore the best target), the detector on your dashboard may miss it.

-Many radar guns, whether handheld or vehicle based, have an instant on feature. If you are in a "radar detector friendly state", the officers in your area probably use this option so they don't give away their location to those with detectors.

If in doubt, you may want to check your detector in the same vehicle with someone who has a known working one. If their detector goes off, and yours does not, yours is likely defective.

Using the manual, locate the position of the LASER detector and make sure that it is HIGH ENOUGH ABOVE THE DASHBOARD that is has a good "view" down the road so that there is a CLEAR line of sight to the laser gun.

Remember that if you see an officer with a laser gun, he may not have it on, and even if he does, the pattern of invisible light from the laser is not very wide so he could be pointing it at the car next to you and your radar detector may not "see" any of the laser from the officer.

Most likely the speaker simply blew due to excessive heat. This is a fairly common problem with all makes and models of radar detectors. Contact Cobra. They should either be able to send you a replacement speaker which you can install yourself, or they should issue you a RMA so that you can send in your Cobra for service.

Are you sure that this is the correct model number? I don't see it on Cobra's web site. Some retailers request that Cobra brand their products with different model numbers in order to avoid having to honor any "lowest price" guarantees. Check Cobra's web site and see if your Cobra RD model looks identical to one of the other models shown on their web site. Alternatively, call Cobra and ask them for a link to an online PDF of the user manual or for a replacement manual.

It operates off of 12V negative ground.

Atleast the xrs-797 was notated as the 9930.

4.6 Northstar V8. It is located on the rear of engine (driver side) in front. It is in the the water pump housing cover. Remove air box and intake tube and bottom radiator hose. 2 bolts(believe 10mm) on thermostat housing. These systems are a little finicky about air pockets....so fill slowly and let run at idle until operating temp and let cool and check level.....fill as needed and repeat if needed.
