i would assume somebody has to open the Laptop and replace the switch alltogether. If you want to pay to have somebody do it for you there is a third party Acer Repair Service. However, if you want to do it yourself, the part is available on ebay. Here's an Acer Repair guide. Maybe a tech savy friend can do it for you.

Replace the inside of the keyboard with a new piece. One of the major problems with Dell keyboards is that the plastic pieces holding the keys in place become loose or broken. You can find a cheap keyboard from Papatek.com or an electronics store. Simply take apart the new keyboard, pull the keys off your keyboard, lay the plastic piece on top and replace your keys.

update the drivers for the drive and if necessary, download the latest software for the drive.

Acer Ferrari 4000 "power on" blank screen, fan is running but no beeps, no activity in/from the HD. No reaction on a F8 start up (no Bios set up). It charges the battery OK.

Your memory chips must be had i that sounds like a chip problem under the laptop secured by two screws will be where the chip lodged pull it out and re-enter it might go it might not but that your problem I am sure of it.

Seems like the connection might not be setup correctly inside the laptop. Check for bent pins for where the lcd screen connects to the motherboard, and also make sure any "ground" screws are in like they were if there are any.

if not working,, just try to re-install your windows...

Please try and bootup your computer in safe mode by pressing the F8 Button just before windows starts to load. a menu appears and you just need to select the safe mode option and see how it goes from there.

Did you check if you have the firewall blocking access. How do you connect to the internet with a modem or through a network.

The overheating can be caused by :-
The fan has stopped working - needs replacing
The vents and or fan is blocked with dust - needs cleaning
When operating the laptop it needs to be placed on a flat surface so the vents on the bottom of the laptop are ubobstructed.

There could be screws behind the battery area if you haven't found so. If it doesn't come out then you gotta remove the bezel on the top of the keyboard... might need some preying be careful plastics break easily. when you get the bezel off then you might see some screws holding the keyboard down and now remove those and be careful not to destroy and of the white ribbons they are extremely hard to replace if broken.

Seems like your VISTA upgrade didn't sucessfully upgrade itself from XP to VISTA. Seems like M$ update program detects your OS as XP and tries to install the SP3 for XP. VISTA only has SP1 released. Its currently stuck in a loop that it doesn't know what to do. Restart your laptop into safe mode by pressing F8 before the VISTA loading page comes up and go to Safe mode and backup your data and use the ACER RESTORE CD OR ACER RESTORE METHOD to help you reload your system back to factory defaults then upgrade back to vista without install any updates or connecting it to the internet.

This is my best solution to get you out of this weird and unusual situation.

Take it from the top - which version of Windows, and what is the EXACT error message?

You can boot it up with the recovery CD and run through it as if you were doing a setup and then when the second repair come up..... hit repair. This should repair any problem. If you want to try the simple way... use the first repair that comes up. When the screen comes up with a blinking curser hit the number 1 then Enter........ When it ask you for a password hit enter. There should not be a password unless someone has put one in it. If there is a password it should be your master password.
Then type fixmbr and hit enter. This will fix your master boot record. If that does not work use the second repair. Sounds complicated but it is not.

in hp it is for sllep....
bt no laptop has meno for screen...

reinstall windows,use repair if you want to keep previous data but I would choose fresh copy(both options take about the same time)so may as well have fresh clean copy.

lcd going bad then and maby the power suply sending the power underpowering it overheating maby also is it getting hot on u clean it out cheak cables on it take it apart pop fornt part up out to cheak cables

its really important you tell us what menu comes up it will help heaps. now...

your computer is not initialising correclty this could be becuse of a hardware or driver conflict, did you install hardware or open the computer recenlty?

bootup the computer in safe mode or try last known good configuration... this should solve the problem as it sounds like purely a software problem.
