Sony VAIO VGN-FS920 Notebook Questions & Answers
Vaio fs920 will not connect to wireless internet
I'm assuming you are still using WinXP on this machine? If so make sure you have Service Pack 3 installed since XP doesn't have native support for newer wireless encryption standards like WPA2. If you are using WPA2 encryption on your network then try setting it to an older version like WEP and connecting that way, if that works but not with WPA2 then you don't have the extensions for the newer encryption protocols installed that come with Service Pack 3.

My VAIO VGN-FS920 laptop freezes
Hello.
Either you have an operating system problem or memory issue.
First, boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly when powering on). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, all your updates will roll back to that date. Follow the process.
If still a problem, disconnect all cables. Remove the battery. Be certain to dispel static electricity by touching metal. Remove the memory cover. Try reseating (removing and reinserting) your memory (try one module at a time to test). Replace the cover and battery and boot.
Hope this helps.

What is the max size and speed of hard drive you
On the Hard Drive you can put almost anything with it that sony supports I would suggest that you use a external drive 1 TB then there is no problems and everything you have on the old one is accessible. 2G is the max on memory you can get everything at office depot total cost would be around $150 not really hard to install.

I am getting scratchy sound;
This will be probably from either your hard drive or the fan you need to take it to a authorised personal .if you yourself are capable then follow the steps and you will be able to know from where it is coming from
1.Swtch it off and remove the top cover the keypad will get seperated and you will gain access to the motherboard locate the fan and give it a spin with your hand and check if it sounds noisy if it doesnt it is not probably.Check your hard drive just recaptulate that when did you installed the drive if it is long {more than 5 yrs} then your hard drives heads inside are scraching against the disk as they have become weak or are at the verge of going out it is highly recommended to you to remove/back up all files and folders on this drive and then use it till it works because we can't calculate as to exactly how much time it will work purchase a spare hard drive and keep it with you {CAPACITY-depending on your system configuration} i am telling that you can use the drive because there is no harm to any of your system parts using that drive the only thing is that it can go off anytime shortly so just enure you have a back up copy of the drive.Unfortunately heads can't be repaire if repaired in extreme cases the deteriorate the performance of the drive and make your system slow it is recommended to buy a new one

I'm trying to backup my files and got following:
In the "Run" box, type in "services.msc" and locate "Removable Storage" highlight it and right-click, select "start" or after you highlight it, you can click the link "Start" on the left pane. If it's already started, click "restart".
But i wonder how this comes when you are running a backup utility. If you have further problem, do let me know with more details.
Good luck.
Thanks for using FixYa.

I have to remove the battery pack and reinsert it
have you tried holding the power button down for about 5-10 seconds to manually shut down laptop? make sure the system is up to date with the current updates and clean out the system using your antivirus program. also try microsoft security essentials if you dont already have it.

My dvd drive is not working
Make sure your BIOS is current. Try different DVDs to isolate if it is a defective DVD. Get you a optical disc cleaner kit and run it through the machine to clean the optical pickup reader inside. If your DVD drive is not even spinning, then your DVD drive is fu.k.d up, in which you will need IT to install a new one.
