Do you get any error messages?
If not, try running system file checker to see if it's a windows based error. I usually see these types of lock ups when a DLL (Dynamic link library) file is corrupted or missing
Here is how you do it.
Simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in: sfc /scannow
This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to
scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with
which it finds a problem. Make sure you have your original Windows CD in case it asks for it.
This may take awhile so be patient.

Can't Print Notecards
I ran into this problem several times. The way I solved it was I drew an arrow on the side of the paper that faced in and up. When you look at the wrong placement, it will tell you which way to place the paper.
