I have a GE downdraft cooktop and the igniters continuously click

You probably have button or a knob to press to get ignition if there is a bit of gunk stuck in there it will not come out again, you need to remove the knob and clean out whatever is in there.

Knobs misaligned on new GE Cooktop

Most of these knobs just pull off. If yours is like this, just pull off the knob, and reinstall by pushing back onto the shaft with it correctly aligned.
